Q, Welsummers do lay a dark egg as well.

Al, The main reason people have Marans is for the dark eggs and being able to sell "pure" Marans eggs. Crossing them with a BR will only lighten the color so nothing is gained. It is very hard to tell a Cuckoo Marans chick from a BR chick despite what everyone says about leg color and all.

Why are you gonna sell yours?

Monty I am starting to get a couple eggs every now and then from my Marans hoping the shock will wear off soon and start laying on a regular basis! I must say that the eggs are pretty dark I will take a picture and see what you think when my wife finds where she left the camera!!!!

My DW wants some more Foo-Foo Hairdo birds, I only have 3 Marans and 2 are Roo's, 1 of them is super good looking the other is slower in development. I just had them for H*ll of it.
