Since I had never heard of a mountain cur, I Googled them and found a lot of interesting information on the breed. Seems as though the "Old Yeller" in the book was a Mountain Cur and they were very popular with settlers heading West.
I am intrigued with the possible nature that a Mountain Cur/Great Pyraneese cross would have, since they appear to have several very different personality traits.
I don't want to get rid of my Great Pyr, but sometimes I would like another dog that had her good tendencies without her tendency to escape and wander.
I'm lucky that our pyr doesn't wander much. They both run loose, but stay home pretty much. They both are really good with the kids and have always been good with the chickens. I checked the extra dewclaws, they all have them except the 2 black ones. I guess those two will take after the cur. I've only had one person at the house who ever guessed him as a cur. Alot of people think he has pit in him, because of his square type head.
