That is what we do, so you do not have the only mistreated birds.

Yep, the rubber tubs are the best way to go, especially with all the birds we have. We started out with some of the metal waterers, and they are awful in freezing weather. We sold the metal waterers at auctions and now mostly have the rubber tubs. We do have the plastic waterers for the banties and smaller pens, but I am sold on rubber tubs! And, the cheapest place I've found them is thru americanlivestock.com

Thanks Mike,

I sure do have a few Mille roos ... at least a few that are around 3-4 months old. Hmmm, I wonder if I know him? Well, if he's from Tuttle, he at least probably knows a relative or two of mine. I haven't actually lived in Tuttle very long ... less than 10 years now, but I have tons of Tuttle relatives ... most probably won't claim me though

Wait a minute ... maybe I have lived in Tuttle a long time. Heck, time flies when youir having fun .... or is it, time flies the older you get? Gosh I feel so old now.

Thanks also for the nice words on our eggs

I most likely won't be at any auction this weekend, but hopefully will get to go again soon. I guess I shouldn't complain too much about the forced overtime ... I should be thankful for a job. Especially this one where I can sit here and enjoy the forum

Hmmmm ... maybe they are young? Could be the roo, or even could be an infertile hen? I don't think it's a winter problem, because most of my silkie and sebright eggs are fertile. I don't have any oegb laying yet though ... all mine are either young or recently purchased and no eggs yet.

If the eggs continue to be infertile, then I'd look to swap roosters. If the eggs are still infertile, it's the hen. We did have some rainy & cool weather lately, like Mike said. Sometimes that does mess up the fertility a bit.

I have a black, a black breasted red, and a blue breasted red that are all laying now. They all started within the last 10 days. I have them all in breeding pens, no idea if the eggs are fertile but I've collected a few to put in the incubator & see.

P&B save this link. The thermo cube is only 12.50 here.

As for your deep litter method. I am not sure this will be my first year using them. I have read the post from the others that have used them with no trouble. I will most likely lay out two flat concrete blocks (not the two hole cinder blocks) with the tin on top of that then the waterer.

I'll tell Gerald that you want us there ... maybe it would make a difference. I know when we were on our way to work today, he was saying he wished we were retired so we didn't have to go to work anymore. Maybe he needs a little road trip to feel better? This is just wishful thinking. I doubt if I can talk him into it (calling in sick) but I'll work on him tonight, after he gets off work at midnight ... I have to stay til 2 am.

I'm sure I have birds I should sell too ... but I sure do get attached to some of them. I'm not downsizing very well.

Yeah, it would be great if you two could come!

I'll be watching to see what you decide
