I do, but the Polyface guy brought back some Daniel Salatin rabbits that he is going to be breeding. I'm gonna get my hands on some of their offspring.

They are supposed to be more parasite and disease resistant than other domestic breeds, so they may be just what I'm seeking for my pastured rabbit operation. I figure since I can't get any Brazillians, these may just be the next best thing.

No, I hadn't, Les. It is very intriguing. I need a place to keep my breeders (the fryers will be tractored Salatin style ) and I have been considering colonizing them. Your suggestions just may do the trick.

I do wonder about the article's comment about rabbits getting sick from being on cow pasture, though. If they are talking about cocci, I don't see how, since I had heard it was species specific. Wish they had explained that rather than just say "don't do it because the rabbits will get sick." Maybe you or P&B will know.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion and the link!

Les, your knowledge is truely astounding...I am impressed...my wife on the other hand rolled her eyes, huffed, and informed me a chicken group is all I am allowed to belong to and I have too many rabbits and other things as it is

yup...she is a fun Nazi...

sorry dear

Well if sickness was the case Cotton Tails and Jacks would be non existant. Maybe the domestic rabbits have a lower resistance. Hmmm

They do tend to share a disease or two. The other one I found was on the Plains of Africa so I didn't think it was all that relevent. Am going to do some more looking.

From what I am reading about rabbits, that mus be the case. I'm unscientifically convinced it is because they have been kept in sterile cages up off the ground for much of the past century and their immune systems are shot. That's what cool about the Zils and the Salatin rabbits. They haven't, and seem to be more disease resistant for it.
