When it comes to cocci, apparently more so. From reading the Meat Rabbits group, just set a bunny on the ground and it will keel over dead from it in less than a minute.

Okay, I exaggerate. But only a little.

Two minutes.

I've had rabbits get loose and live the wild side of life and they usually do great till something cathes and kills them. They are prone to lots of illnesses, but they can catch them up in wire cages too!. As long as the warren has some shelter from the rain they will do good. Being wet is the worse environment. I've never done the hay bale warren but have read a lot about them and they are usually pretty good. I would want wire or concrete,or wood under the floor straw because they do like to burrow. If you could put the warren in a barn or shed it would be great. Periodic cleaning (proably more often than a henhouse requires) would also go a long way in health. Only one buck and think about letting him loose only when does need bred as they create havoc and injure babys or does.

Well I worked tonight at the retail place and apparently the Christmas shopping season has already begun. I really hate being out in it, even if I'm just needing one thing... because that's when people get hateful, rude, demanding, and demean the staff who are trying to help them. Tonight I got something flung at me, had a lady cuss me out, and was called several unflattering names at different times during the evening.

At least I got to play with the chickens before I went to work... animals are going to be much preferred to humans, at least to me, very quickly.

Henny - If I was closer i would take you hunting in a minute! You are too cute! Gotta take you on a rabbit hunt...blame Buster and NNbreeder...too much talk about rabbits. I must admit that I am intrigued with this warren...I like them strange English Scottish type words and such!!!

Now what is y'alls expert ideas on chicken and rabbits together? Looked at a thread about that awhile back and some folks just trrashed folks for even thinking about doing it and others claimed to have done it for years!

The only down side I can see is that they could injure each other. I do have a couple of Cotton Tail does that nest in the area that the chicken pens are in and co-mingle with the free range birds. Haven't seen any problems yet and this has been going on for many years.

I just can't see chickens and rabbits working out at all. I've raised bot at the same time but not together, even as much as haveing them in wire cages next to each other. Just too much risk of all kinds of things. Rabbits are tuff but I am sure something would happen in that situation. If they both had the ru of the barnyard maybe but in close proximity.

Teach she needs to go squirrel hunting that would teach her quietness and the example of waiting it out on a deer stand.Oh I forgot you need trees for that!lol

You know that's funny. When my free rangers hear a horse apple hit the ground it's like ringing a dinner bell. They also scratch under the bantam pens but they don't mess about under the rabbit hutches. I have never had a chicken that scratched under the hutches come to think of it.

Thanks Henny... I think that the holiday season actually tends to bring out the worst in people, not the best... at least, the worst in public!
