I'm the Producer of the Tulsa Oilers home games - it's a fancy title for a not-so-fancy job. I direct the sound, lights, video, replays, announcer, etc. When you go to any big sporting event and see stuff happening on the screen, the music, the activities on the ice or field or court during breaks/intermission/halftime etc. There's someone who is in charge of deciding what happens when - that's what I do. I'm on a headset talking to the people who are doing the actual work...I got the job because I'm bossy!
Hey City -
I grew up in Tulsa. I refuse to say how many years ago this was, but I was a sweet young thing still in high school - my mother worked for a man that is or was at the time part owner of the Tulsa Oilers. Don't quote me on it, but that was my understanding, anyway. His last name was Sallee - not sure of the spelling. We used to go to the games and had rink side box seats. My mom made me quit going when she found out I had a crush on one of the players. I don't know why she made me quit - I thought the guy was cute, but I never met him or spoke to him...
I do remember that Mr. Sallee also owned or was part owner of another sports team - Team Rodeo. One of the members was Bobby DelVeccio (sp?). He went on to become the World Champion Bull Rider in the PBR not long after that. It always blew my mind to think of Bobby in rodeo - He was from NYC - and had the WORST New York accent!
I really don't know much about the hockey team - the BOK Center hires me to produce sporting events in their venue, so I'm really working for them. I know that Jeff Lund is now the owner of the Oilers, and that he used to own the Tulsa Talons - the arena football team, too. But that is about the extent of my knowledge as far as team history.
