Well I should have baby chicks sent out today. I am really worried they are going to get too cold.
Today we are back to school and the kids are getting back into the swing of things.

Hey Everyone,

The kids and I are back into our home school and we are starting our history for this quarter journeying through the 50 States... Today was Delaware, which by the way did you know has a chicken for the state bird? Yep thats right its the Blue Hen Chicken. Did you also know that the United States chicken industry began in DE and the state has around 2400 farms that cover nearly half of the land area! Isnt that crazy...

Its always nice to learn new things or even be reminded of those you hadnt thought of in a very long time. Even my 9 year old thought that info was cool...ha ha

Hope you are having a wonderful day, I noticed our 3 remaining hens were feeling a bit low today especially the Naragensett Hen that we have left from that breed... Hopefully she will perk up soon.

There are very few of the original line of Delaware Blue Hens around. They were ouctrossed with Andalusians several years ago.
There is/was a breeder that has/had a small flock of the originals. THe University of Delaware keeps a flock also but they have the Andalusian outcross. Thats about all I know about Delaware and the the University mascot is the Blue Hens.

Oh yeah and "What did Delaware."
A New Jersey.

How come nobody told me that OKCarla is a very pretty lady?

Picked up what I'm pretty sure is a pullet from her this afternoon. The kiddo has proclaimed the chicken is to be named Avalanche... fits in with the rest of their names, so that's what it shall be called from here on

I'll post pics to the MFC group and doublecheck that she is a she and not a he, which really doesn't matter either way to me, and go from there.
