I have Phantom the mutt and Avalanche the MFC cockerel wandering around the living room... my daughter is on poo patrol since she's the one who asked if they could come out while she's awake so she can babytalk them "Awwww what cute widdle babies..."

Anyway. Anybody have the directions to Blanchard tomorrow? It'll be myself, my kid, and J's son... I hate to say that these two aren't as well behaved as Teach's or Q's.

I try, but man there are some days when I just wish for duct tape.

Henney your trip to Walmart sounds like mine! We went last night to get stuff to save our pipes, found a bin of new Hotwheels for 97 cents. Hubby bought me four... Looks like I collect Hotwheels again. Lol

So yesterday morning I was out watering my birds with my big green bucket of nice, warm water. I emptied half in the rubber water pan for the turkeys, and half into the one for chickens. I went into the coop to open the door for my chickens. I set the bucket on the floor and turned so I could check on the new perches I had just built. I heard a >THUNK< behind me and turned to find the bucket upside down. Apparently one of the chickens had tipped it over. I completed my inspection and adjustments and turned to retrieve the bucket and leave.

The bucket was haunted. It was slowly inching its way across the coop floor.

OK, went to the dr today. It was all good news. But the cold about did me in. I'm sitting here trying to talk myself out of going to Blanchard tomorrow and I think I'm making some headway. I have to go to OKC tomorrow to get a part for my scooter and if I think I can still brave this weather, I'll go to Blanchard. If not, I'll see you guys in the spring. That's assuming that we don't all freeze.

Anyone use a black light in the coop for heat? A friend who raises lizards and snakes (EEeeeeeaaaeeeeewwwwww!) has a black light in all his big tanks, year round, and he turns them on at night. He says the black light simulates a warm, dark evening. DH got one for the laying coop, so I installed it tonight. I put a thermometer/humidity meter into the coop to monitor the high and low for both. Will the light keep the hens awake? Or will it really simulate darkness? It adds a weird, psychedelic, 70s sort of ambiance to the coop interior as all the new poops are glowing bright white. If nothing else, the black light will help me know when it's time to clean the coop.

I was thinking about buying some of those hot hand packs but when I went to Walmart they were all out even in the camping area. I wonder if Jerry would mind if I brought a space heater to put in front of us during the auction..

Well I got my baby chicks settled in oh are they so cute. Gave them an avacodo that had started to go bad and the big ones I got a couple of weeks ago won't touch it but the little ones jumped right in and are gobbling it up. You all know avacodo is considered a super food. Which is good since we eat a bunch of them.

I actually have a big bowl of guacamole I just made that we are going to have for dinner tonight.

Speaking of pictures I wanted to post a few pictures of the lastest brooder I made but can not figure out how to do it. Is there a place on this site that tells how to do this? I just made a new brooder since my last one finally broke and wanted to show off my ingenuity. It is quite FABU!

Sorry to hear so many of you are having freezing pipes. Totally know your pain, our pipes froze up when we had that first freeze. The pipe to the back bathroom busted so we had to turn off the water and the pipe from the well froze. Got the pipe fixed right away but we still had no water for three days, finally it got warm enough to thaw and I have since insulated all our pipes real well.

You know what is so wonderful about all of you guys? It seems like everyone on here is so industrious and handy. No calling the plumber (at $100 an hour) you all just roll with it and fix it yourselves. Its people like us who survive when others do not. You all are totally awsome
