AI have over 100 bantams. They are all 6 months to 14 months old. They are out of show stock. Nice healthy birds. I have OE self blues, OE blacks, OE whites, OE BB reds, OE creos, OE red pyles, OE silver duckwings frizzles, black cochins and buff cochins. You can pick them indivdually, by the pair or by the trio. $10.00 each.

They are all laying good. Will consider trades just let me know what you have.

22. I'm giving it a few more days, just in case the temp was low. The humidity monitor I tested before putting this batch in.

The last hatch that I had I could not get my humidity up. I use a digital hydrometer and when it gets below 20% it just says low. That's what it said all the time the little ones were hatching too. But if I remember right the number of days were longer to get there. In fact Teva asked me when they went in, of course I didn't write it down, and I figured they were about four days late.

Mine clicks off and on and when I got it the guy said that he only used it one time I am assuming that this is normal by my temp seems to be staying somewhat stable.

Usually when a wafer is bad they don't shut off or won't come on. Atmospheric pressure will affect them too but only slightly. My Sportsman cycles quite regular and the temp stays within 1/10 of a degree.

hey guys with in the week i will be looking for some bantam or large fowl hatching eggs , if anyone has any or knows of some , i would appreciate it if you could pm me and let me know breed whether pure or mix and the cost and shipping thanks

But you know at only about 6 dollars a new wafer is very cheap insurance against a bad hatch of valuable birds.

The hatcheries are getting what two or three dollars each for chicks? A tabletop holds 42 eggs in a turner so that's nearly 100 dollars worth of chicks. If you were lucky enough to get a 50/50 mix of pullets and cockerels and sold the pullets at point of lay for $10 each that would be $210.00.

We just got back from taking Charlotte for a birthday dinner at Olive Garden her favorite restaurant. We ordered the black tie chocolate mouse cake and I am about to have a sugar crash and pass out.
I am still so far behind on these posts. I will probably have to catch up on Monday when everybody goes back to school.

The one book that you already have with a new edition, I would scan through some of the pages on the new one and compare it to the old one. Most of the time there is hardly any difference and you would probably be fine with using the one you already have. I have seen many other students have an older edition and use them in classes rather than buying the new edition.

Ok I am going to admit! During Super bowl I LOVE to watch the TV ads and nothing else, well except the half time show. I too don't like watching televised sports and really don't watch too much tv at all.

Faerie just a thought and you may have already tried, do you have another humidity gauge to go against yours maybe yours is reading a little low?? Just a thought I am new at this ....

I was paranoid and tested it twice before I used it in this batch

Mainly because humidity was too high in my last hatch, when I got 12 out of 42 and they were all gummy/sticky when they hatched.

OK, well.. wait a minute. When you say you tested it does that mean that you actually "calibrated" it? What I mean is, if you're using one of the digital units that shows temp and humidity and you didn't spend hundreds for it then the humidity reading is probably off, maybe a lot.

Mix 1/2 cup of salt in 1 cup of water in a regular ol coffee cup. Put this cup into a large zip-lock bag then set your meter in the bag beside the cup and zip it up. Let it set there at room temp for 12 hours. Your humidity reading should be 75%.

Lets say the reading is 65%, that's 10 points low, so when you use the meter in the bator and it reads 40% (for example) you'll needs to add 10 to get the correct reading, which would be 50%.

Another thing that can make the digital meters inaccurate is the battery(ies). Weak batteries will cause wrong readings, so always use new batteries for each hatching cycle. I use rechargables.

Not trying to be a know-it-all, just trying to help.

No, I tested it, using the exact method that you just described, which I found in the incubating/hatching part of the forum. I can't calibrate it because it's not a high dollar one, it's one of the 3 that I bought before my first attempt. I did get paranoid and change the batteries first before testing it... found out it was reading 9 low, and bought a new wafer for the 'bator because I didn't know if the last batch got too hot once because the only eggs that hatched were the ones right in front of the fan.

I've been really paranoid about this batch. This is the third time I've tried incubating, and the first time was a total loss, the second time I got 12 out of 42. The main problem right now is that I can't get the humidity up and I'm worried that it's compromising the hatch. Since it's only day 22, I'm not counting it as a loss yet.
