Pretty good. Nice outside... just came in from feeding the chickens and the dogs. Beginning to really dislike my daughter's little 20 lb mutt... she's never wanted for food her entire life, but is starting to get food aggressive. I had to put her in a cage to feed her so she won't snap/snarl at J's 14 year old lab mix.

I too think as many of us do here that the scheduling of this new Fletcher auction does conflict with the more established and well run auctions in our area. The Fletcher auction owners need to find a way to attract the volume chicken buyers in the area, I think that is a critical to their success. If it continues to bring in the garage sale type goods instead of quality poultry that they are fast becoming the norm the big flocks of real chicken folks may just pass altogether.............................. Sorry Jim.........................

Hey, that's okay, Al. It is okay for us to disagree on occasion. I'm not sure we do disagree on this all that much. I do think the big buyers who buy and then sell elsewhere should reconsider that third Saturday (although I haven't been all that impressed with Cement's selection lately, either), as they can pick up some really good bargains to sell for a good bit more in another venue. Plus if the junk is sold at 4 before the poultry part starts at 5 I don't see how that would affect chicken folks at all, although there was that time when they slipped it into the poultry auction... that was a big mistake in my view.

And them heaters and fans really do the trick for me. If Cement would start taking the comfort of the buyer into account, it would make me a happy camper.

Even if I'm wrong about this, I was right about Blanchard, wasn't I? Can't be right all the time. It would ruin my reputation.

Yes you were right on the $$$$$ supporting the Blanchard auction .................... I have come to really like the inventory Jerry keeps attracting. The conditions as far as climate control inside the venue don't really affect my decision to go to one or another, the quality of the poultry dictates that. I really do want to see Fletcher do well because of the proxcimity to home, but they really need to get a handle on things pretty quick as we chicken folks don't cotton to feet draggin in conducting business.

As far as Cements selection lately I just really chalk that up to the winter, when things are always pretty slow, this spring and summer should tell if Fletcher has the wind and the gut's to stick it out with Cement, but that of course depends on the big buyers and that benefits us all, Hey Jim perhaps a Stimulas package for Fletcher would help LOL................

regardless it's all good in my opinion, here's to a better spring & summer buddy.

Jack, my wife's schnauser, isn't food aggressive, but he won't allow anyone else to hold him or pet him. His vet and his groomer both have to muzzle him before they can work on him. Jill, the other schnauser is just the opposite. She begs to be petted and played with.

Twilight has started snapping, snarling, all kinds of stuff to the other dog Lucy, who has never been food aggressive in her life. In fact, she usually just lets this 20 lb menace eat out of her bowl whenever she wants, even though Lucy weighs 60 lbs to Twilight's 20. It's very strange. I just shoved the food in one of the cages I have, and threw the dog in there with it, then fed Lucy.

Faerie,

I have a shocking collar you can use. Any time I have a dog that snaps or snarls at another dog, I jolt them with the shocking collar and bring them to their knees. Doesn't take many lessons like that.

May have to borrow that... gonna call my dad this afternoon and see if he still has the shock collar he bought a few years back. Last I heard, my sister used it on one of her dogs to keep him from going over their fence and it worked. You're right... it'd be worth a try on Twilight.

Since I saw ya'll get into a bidding war over some blue americauna hens I took to Blanchard last May, I won't bother giving you the standard disclaimer about this group being full of folks who are addicted to poultry auctions, hatching and acquiring poultry. I figure you are already addicted and just maybe we can "enable" you to find anything in particular you are looking for.

Did I understand Doc correctly that y'all are the ones actually running the Fletcher auction?
My husband was delighted to see Montana again. He still talks about him running around last May when it was so hot in just a pullup and riding that tricyle all over the place.

Renia indicated last night that she was looking for some particular kinds of hatching eggs. This forum is a great place to put out the word about what you need and then we can work out how to get it to you.

Afternoon all! Been unable to get online much the last few days. It's been insanely, crazily busy at work the last week or so. I even had to work yesterday, which really sucks since I don't get o.t. At least I don't have to go in tomorrow knowing I'm starting out in the hole and unable to dig my way out. This horrid weather caught everyone off guard.

My chickens made it through safely - we covered up most of the east side of the henhouse to try to keep it a bit warmer, and DH hung a heat lamp out there. I don't know that it did much good - one little heat lamp in a big hen house, but it made him feel better knowing that he tried to help. I couldn't find any bulbs for the heat lamps that weren't red, so we still had to hang a regular light out there. The girls didn't lay any eggs Friday, but we got five yesterday and two more this morning. I haven't checked this afternoon, but we have some that lay later in the day, so we may have more out there already.

Our water didn't freeze, but the youngest daughter's froze up solid Thursday night because her husband went around turning off all of the faucets. He's a city boy, and didn't believe us when we warned that they'd better leave the water dripping. Their water thawed out this morning - they lucked out and no pipes are leaking as far as we can tell. Not such good news about their van - idiot didn't think my husband knew what he was talking about when DH advised him to check his antifreeze to make sure it would be up to this weather. The radiator froze up and some of the hoses busted when he took the kids to school Friday. It's the only vehicle he has running and he's a pizza delivery driver. He is supposed to be working on it this afternoon, but I haven't seen any sign that he's been out there. He has his work cut out for him, that's for sure. If he doesn't get out there soon, he's not going to make it in to work...

Faerie - those shock collars work wonders - but be careful when you use them. We have "anti-bark" collars for our two dogs that we use when we take them camping with us. The collars use a graduated system of correction that starts out with just a beep. If the dog continues to bark, the collar generates a mild shock (more of a buzz). If the dog continues to bark, the shocks get progressively stronger - but only until it's fairly sharp, then the collar resets. All it takes to hush DH's big boxer mix is the beep or the mildest setting. Her feelings get hurt pretty easily. However, my little Lhasa mix is really stubborn. If he just insists on barking no matter what - you hear yap, yap yap YIKE! yap, yap, yap YIKE!!!

Edited to remove the stupid smilies that weren't working...
