we have single, rose and walnut combs on our birds but for show only singles are allowed.

Flip-side is that in Australia a rose comb is normal and single combs are rare.

Sure do hey any ideas on how to keep the little chicks from wasting all their feed from their feeders. I think they waste more than they eat. As we all know that chick starter grower is not cheap

If you use the round feeders just set them in a larger pan. That way when they scratch it out it just goes in a bigger pan.

I did that today on the bigger chicks out in the pens. But the ones inside in tubes scratch the pine shavings into it and once its mixed they dont seem to want to eat it.

Now here is what is perplexing to me. Almost all of the hens have 5 toes and prominant spur buds. 5 toes is a trait of just very few birds with the most common one being Silkie. There is no black skin anywhere on these birds so that counts out Silkie.

The other that is a larger breed is Dorking but they are short legged. These birds have perfectly proportioned legs.

Now on all of the 5 toed breeds that I have seen the toes look like they are almost coming out of the same place, like one toe grew into two. Some of these the toes are almost 1/4 of an inch from the fourth toe.

It has got me plumb confused as I have never seen anything like it.

This is a blurry shot of one of the hen's spur buds and extra toe.

I am planning to order through Ideal at the end of the month when I get paid. I am planning of order on the 29th of this month but so you know due to some of the chicks I am ordering Ideal will probably not ship the order out until around the first of March. If that is ok with you I will let you know right before I order. Got at least one other person ordering so shipping should be relatively cheap.

Any one else want to get in on this order let me know. Like I said I am planning to order on the 29th. Just PM me with your order and we can figure out paying for this order.
