Is it just me or does anybody else have the problem of their butt getting stuck in the computer chair and their fingers glued to the keyboard and eyes on the monitor.

If you use the round feeders just set them in a larger pan. That way when they scratch it out it just goes in a bigger pan.

I did that today on the bigger chicks out in the pens. But the ones inside in tubes scratch the pine shavings into it and once its mixed they dont seem to want to eat it.

Oh, ok. Use a collander as a screen to screen out the shavings or you can use small mesh wire cloth,

Evening everyone,

After having what I believe was a premonition of what could come, Jason and I have decided to forgo calling the place Misfit Farmstead due to the fact we certainly dont want folks assuming we take in "misfit" animals there for leaving any with us... I even did some research and found there was already such a place called Misfit Farm and it happens to be a livestock sanctuary so go figure

so we are back to the drawing board again

we have single, rose and walnut combs on our birds but for show only singles are allowed.

Flip-side is that in Australia a rose comb is normal and single combs are rare.

I DO NOT GET the Sam Elliott thing.
He looks like he is in some serious need of a few home cooked meals.
Looks like he could use a big dose of Ivermectin or at least some Wazine.
If he stood sideways and stuck out his tongue he would look like a zipper!

Ha! With Sam Elliot it's a combo of that lean cowboy/biker-tude and his deep voice. He doesn't get a whole lot worse as he gets older, either - although I haven't seen him in anything for awhile.

The last thing I spotted him in was with Nicholas Cage Ghost Rider

Just talked to my brother in law... apparently I inherited this virus from my sister, who was down with it yesterday morning, didn't tell anybody, then went to my Mom's house and hung out.

She realizes NOW that it wasn't a good idea... apparently I can come across not-so-nice when not feeling good...

Anyway. I was doing some money calculations on the cost of building more coops... then had a bit of an epiphany. Yes, I live in the city. However, I have an already poured 8x10 concrete slab in my back yard... used to have one of those cutesy wooden kid playhouses on it (only know because my neighbor still has hers). However the mini house was already gone before I bought it, only the slab remains. So I called up my bro and asked him how much it cost them to put a shed in their back yard, he said that I need to figure out if the slab is thick enough to anchor the building to it, which would cross out the majority of the money he spent on his shed (the floor was expensive). So guess that means I get to dig a hole by the side of the slab and figure out how far down it goes.

Because of the dog issue, I'm figuring on building the shed and fencing around it. He suggested skylights for natural light, and some kind of continuous ventilation? Not sure what it was called, but he works as a foreman for an insulation company... they do guttering, fireplaces, insulation, vent installation, etc so he'd know what would be best. Said he'd have a rough estimate on wood cost minus flooring tomorrow. It might cost more in labor, but it'd be a darn sight better than more coops. Oh, and he has already figured out how we could split the interior of the shed to keep the layers on one side and the MFCs on the other and still have adequate air flow.

I hope you don't think that I was trying to pawn my poor disabled kitty on you. He goes nowhere without me. I wouldn't even think of getting rid of him. I have actually had people offer to take him, but I just can't turn him loose. He is my baby.

I like the J&J Junction idea though.
