No way would be my answer too... You know the guy that works for me always wanted one to. He finally got enough money saved up without his mom or girlfriend knowing. He bought it and LOVED it... Drove it to work for the first time, heavy freeway in Cali. He walked in the door shaking and white. You know he sold it that day and wouldnt get back on it...
In general he is a good kid. He wont help when you ask him to, but if you dont ask and he sees that it needs to be done, he does it. He is stubborn like that. He has his own way about things and although sometimes it is a good thing it is also a very bad thing. He is my cluts and alot of times wont listen to what you are talking about, he has to experience it for himself before he realizes he is in the wrong. Knowing he is that way makes it that just more firm that my answer is NO. He would not learn or be responsible enough to have that responsiblity because he is a "know it all" until he proves himself wrong.
I certainly wouldn't ever butt into this but since you've been so nice and helpful I thought I'd just throw out my experience.
My father is a police officer in Enid and I had my motorcycle license at 14. Looking back on it, it was the most insane thing I was ever let to do. I remember riding my bike to school at 7:45 am in rush hour......It was a daily experience to be in a close call wreck - 99% not my fault. Majority were people just not paying attention. I got to do it for about 4 months until one of my father's police friends saw me almost get t-boned by some women putting on makeup. I remember doing the typical "i hate you" thing to my parents....yet today at 27, I honest;y can't thank them enough. I've lost 3 friends to bike wrecks. Us young guys think we know best and as soon as we're on something cool, our parents voices are replaced with our friends voices....or in my case, trying to impress girls.
I'm not say you should or shouldn't ....that's your job at the parent....but any decision should be made with both sides of the argument.
