I'm pretty fair at sexing the non-uber fluffy hen-feathered show stock (i.e. hatchery & derivatives of).

The more time you spend around them, the easier it gets. Usually have to wait until they're over 4 months old though.

Figured that was the case

These guys aren't old enough to sex anyway, I don't think. But they sure are pretty. Just don't think I can keep all 5, especially since we're gonna be getting in dark brahmas in March.

Are you sure? Silkies are tiny and don't take up much space or eat much food....

I would keep the two splash (if one is male & one female) and one or two of the blacks (if females). Splash silkie boys are so pretty!

See it'll be hard for me to cull because I like all three in that color range (blue, black and splash). So I'm tempted to keep them all unless I have more than one roo.

What happens the next year when you start breeding them and they start hatching out their cute little offsprings and some of them are blue, 'cause you get blue from black x splash, and, and.....

Thanks for everyone's interest in our spring event and thanks Carla for the kind words..
Al and I have been working on it for awhile but we are not ready to make the official announcment.
It will be at the same place, the KOA in Choctaw. The date hasn't been nailed down but it looks to be around the same time as last year in late April or early May. Everything is tentative.
B52fizzle, Last year there were around 85 at the spring one and I think about 130 at the fall one.
Thanks again for the interest and excitement.

Monty

I wanted to spend more time bragging on how great the event was, but I'm stuck at work & all of a sudden got busy.

The past 2 events were ABSOLUTELY AWESOME !!!!!

I can't thank Monty enough for getting this whole Okies in the BYC thread started, and then organizing the People of Oklahoma Poultry Swap

I totally agree with you. I am convinced that some folks use the hood ornament as a sighting tool to aim at motorcycles and that other folks tend to look right past them. Either way, the motorcycle rider loses in any collision with a vehicle, tree or just laying it down on some uneven road or gravel. Young people already think they are imortal. They just don't understand how quickly situations can go really bad or have the experience to know when to stay off the road.

By the way - I like your newest signature line: Is it my imagination, or do buffalo wings taste like chicken?

J laughs at me, but I'm a fair weather rider. I don't ride when it's super windy, if there's fog, rain, etc. I ride when the weather is beautiful, and I wear ALL my safety gear. I may get laughed at, but a car has at least a ton on a bike, and that's a compact car and I'm a full grown adult. I'm thinking about buying my kid a tank when she's old enough.... then she can pay the insurance, gas, etc on it.

My dad used to joke that he was going to get a car as big as a boat and put rubber all around it, like a bumper car.

I learned to drive in our family's Olds 88 nine passenger station wagon. I think my parents felt like it would be reasonably safe in an accident (way back in the days when we were just beginning to put all passengers in a seat belt) When we got vehicles for our sons, we would only get single cab pickup trucks, so they couldn't have more than two people in the vehicle with them, on the theory that too many kids in a vehicle can be distracting.

Time for me to go home now. Yea!

I hope to see lots of dear Okies at the Blanchard Auction on Saturday night. If all goes well, we'll even have chickens and eggs in the auction.

Good night everyone!
