Right now you just can't pencil out feeding a bottle calf. It is more cost effecient to buy an 800 pounder and feed him for 30 days and send it off to the processer.
Evening you bunch of chicken pushing addicts! (takes one to know one
)
Hope all is well in your world...it was a might windy today. I know this because i didn't use the accelerator coming home...about got a ticket! I have grand plans for this weekend...want to build some rabbit hutches and get some birds sectioned off for breeding....might even put some pigeons into pairs! Then again...I might take a nap
- a friend has decided to rehome a couple of roosters that are fighting over her few hens. I don't have them yet, but anticipate that I will be looking for homes for a Speckled Sussex, a Black Astralorp and a black Naked Neck rooster. Anyone have hens of those breeds that need a companion?
If I get them tomorrow, I could deliver to Blanchard tomorrow night.

The blue sheet says CTC (chlortetracycline) 40mg/lb of feed. It's the first discovered tetracycline antibiotic. The sheet specifically references cattle feed. My invoice says 357 lb of layer mix.
Hopefully, she just picked up the wrong ingredient sheet. Cattle feed will likely have pellets of alfalfa in it that are larger than layer pellets as well as oats and whole corn. Does the feed have only cracked grains?
It has chunks in it... I'll bring some to you on Sunday and have you look at it. It does have cracked corn, and something that looks grainy/powdery, and grains. I didn't see it until I got home because it was in a big bag. If this is cattle feed, I'm going to be REALLY REALLY MAD.
Especially since I had to make a special trip and drive 30 minutes each way to get the stuff.
Oh, and no, I have no idea what it's *supposed* to look like. I've only ever bought pellet and crumble from the local feed store.

Les would be able to tell you if yours is a hen or a roo. I hope you have a hen. My friend is so worried about her "babies" and I know you wouldn't automatically butcher it the first week.
