Morning All!

Well no school for me. Stupid ice and snow!!

I guess I am blessed I do not have children running around expecting me to entertain them, heck I can not even entertain myself.

Listening to all of you talk about dogs, I kinda want to get one but I do not want the hassle of training, feeding and caring for one. So far I have been doing pretty good with locking down the coop at night and making sure everyone is in. It is a pain in the backside but probably no more then the work of having a dog. I am going to order those automatic chicken doors. That should help they are around $125 each so that is cheaper then a dog or even feed for a dog.

Speaking of feed, someone mentioned they get there chicken feed in Harrah and that you can get a barrel full for around $35. If that is right I have some questions about that. Does the feed come in the barrel or do you have to provide your own barrel? What is the content of the feed, protein, etc.? Do you have to have a farm tax ID number to get it at such a good deal? That is a wonderful price and right now that much feed would last a couple of months. Right now I spend about $25 for 100lbs of layer crumbles and scratch mixed.

So I am going to go catch a few more zzz's before the mad cleaning starts. Hope everyone has a great day!

Why yes those are white guineas. I have 4 white, 4 lavender, 4 pied, and 5 pearl guineas. I bought mine from Atwoods as day-old in August. They should lay this spring. I have seen them try to mate. I don't keep them seperated so I get a surprise when the egg hatches. IF you want to wait until mine start laying, you can have some. I don't know anyone else that might have some. I'm sure there are others that do, though.

wow it has to be rough on those poor little chicks, and i know what you mean about snobby neighbors....i was like oh come on this is the country we are all suppose to get along, well come to find out the people before we moved here were real dirtbags.......well its ok i didnt really want them over to eat fresh goat and chickens at my bbq's anyway...... my one and only neighbor out here that did stop pull into my drive and inroduce himself is cool, he is a good ol boy and thats why I didnt mind goind and helping him cut a cord of wood day before the storm as thats his heat source, ypu, cut split and stacked, and hey if anyone ever neeeds wood and you dont want to cut down your trees i have a few that can be cut. or if you know some one who needs it, some of them are one the ground already before the sstorm

Hey Hoo-Doo,

Ft Sill looks like a war zone. There is enough firewood to give every redneck in Oklahoma a good bon fire.

well lets get travelin cause we love bonfires. got a big old hole in back yards just for that, no really wife and i felt bad because we have all these down and dead trees out here and thats all we been doing is wasting them on small fires in the summer and put a ad on cl for people who needed it....got flagged a few times, was called a a hole by a guy who sold wood, jacked his prices up im sure, but like i told him you can come and get it too, i had to give him a logical reason of ok look it is free, dont care what you do with if you like come get it and make a profit come on tuff guy what do you really have to lose it is free.

No other ideas for keeping his frozen food safe, but if he loses it, rather than simply throwing it away, he should think about burying it underneath his garden site. Years ago, a friend lost an entire freezer full of meat and buried it in the middle of the vacant lot next door. That spot had LUSH growth for years!

My FIL has neighbors that had pearl and white. I just loved the white so I kept looking to buy hatching eggs. I couldn't find any close enough or that I thought were a good price. Atwoods usually only carries the pearl. We ended up getting 8 pearl last spring. We had to get rid of the extra males because as they grew, they fought. We kept 1 male and 4 female. This fall my DH happened to be going into Atwwods for something small. He came out with 12 more guineas. They had the other colors and he was kind enough to get them for me because he knew I really wanted them. I spent my evenings looking at guinea pictures. They are now the same size as the older ones and are integrated into the flock. The older guineas never flew up on top of the buildings, but the first time I took the net off the juvinile pen, the lavender and white immediately flew to the top of the coop. I love watching the antics and listening to them. I still haven't been able to tell if they are male or female. They don't let me get close enough to inspect properly. They roost in the coop with the chickens, ducks, and calf. It is all they know, so they don't try to roost in trees. I brood my keet with chickens and keep them with those chicks until they are adults. They believe that they are one big flock. Actually my older guineas like to be with the ducks. I have one young duck, only one kept out of a hatch, that was raised with the young guineas and won't leave their side.

If you didn't know, Atwoods gets their babies from Ideal Poultry. I don't think they have any babies right now though.

Well I gotta go. DH needs my help tending cattle today. I will be back around lunchtime.

tell the guy the guy with the meat prob to put it trash bag poke holes in the bottom of them pack snow around in bag then bury it. i no it sounds primitive but better to try and keep it then lose it, and where is he maybe i could help him dig the hole. i dont have much to do today, deliver a chick trac to guy in okc, then back home and start cutting out another, but that wont be til 530 this even. well ill cut the one out this morning, maybe start putting it together. guy cant pay me on it til friday so no rush there, unless he is in another part of the state?
