If I purchased a chicken that died the night I bought it and it looked healthy, I wouldn't bring any new birds on my place (especially the place I had gotten it from) until I knew it wasn't something that was contagious. Sounds more like he thought about how much he had paid and is wanting more birds for the money. OR he knows why it died... I would want to see it. You definitely wouldn't want to trade for something that was his fault like maybe a predator attack...

What is he wanting? 12 more rare colored chicks

He was wanting the BLRW chicks, but my DH said no cause we have a waiting list. Then my DH and him talked some and now he is going to take 3 RIR hens for trade. But you are right if I had bought a bird from someone that just up and died I wouldnt want to bring in more birds from the same place until I knew it wasnt something that is contagious. The funny think is he took a BLRW hen with him too yesterday and didnt even ask if we had another BLRW rooster, my DH informed him in the conversation that we didint have any but he still didnt ask. If I had a hen and no roo I would be looking for anothr roo to replace it.

I've submitted two suggestioins, but Terrie must be backlogged. My first suggestion for a GFM title reads like a dictionary entry... roost-er\\ n 1 a. God's first alarm clock. My second suggestion reads like this . . . Perspicacious Poultry Ponderings.

Maybe I do need some help. I'm beginning to wonder about me these days.

If it were me, because I don't trust the vast majority of humanity...

1. He'd need to bring back the dead rooster.
2. After it's verified that it's the rooster that you sold him, he can ONLY have his money back. I wouldn't trade him a single chick or bird. Period.

Just the sound of this story makes me feel like this guy is trying to be slick.

I am usually trusting, but something is off to me.

I used to be... then I ended up with 2 divorces, and realized that people aren't being raised with the same sense of personal responsibility and accountability that I was raised with... not even the ones who are around my age. One of the things I hear the most at work by the people I work with is "It's not MY fault that X happened", when in fact it IS their fault... they just don't want to admit that.

Now that would be hilarious to think about... gave himself a heart attack...

I've been there, done that & definitely learned the hard way .....

I'm still learning.

If I were you Stephanie, I might "quarantine" my own flock because of the suspicious death. Because of that no trades are possible now. If the rooster is shown a refund would be possible but nothing else moves on or off the property until you decide all is clear again. I would be interested to see if he would produce the bird or come up with an excuse. Sometimes "too good to be true" is exactly that. It's terrible to get mixed up with a con-artist. Hope it all works out to your best interest.
