What's the matter? School and the lack of sunshine in Oklahoma making you crazy/sad/?????

....told me that he was going to start capturing our cats and killing them. Well, we now have proof of him doing so. He drowned my husbands cat that we have had for several years. I asked his grandson today if he had seen him and he said no. Then I asked him well has your papa been trapping any cats he said yes so we can give them back to you. Twenty minutes later, he was telling Char that they just took our cat out of their pond and threw him in the ditch. What kind of monster does these things? I went and retrieved the body and he is in an obvious position that he was on his toes and looked like he was in a cage trying to stretch up and get out. We are furious! My husband is like there is no way this cat fell in this monsters pond let alone even go over there.

Please give serious consideration to reporting this drowning to the police/sheriff. Unless the cat was threatening his livestock, he had no right to kill the cat. If it was on his property, he was justified in capturing it in a live trap, but he should have then turned it over to animal control or the sheriff's office, depending on where you live.

Title 21 Oklahoma Statutes, Section 1685 Acts of Cruelty to Animals states:
Any person who shall willfully or maliciously torture, destroy or kill, or cruelly beat or injure, maim or mutilate any animal in subjugation or captivity, whether wild or tame, and whether belonging to the person or to another, or deprive any such animal of necessary food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care to prevent suffering; or who shall cause, procure or permit any such animal to be so tortured, destroyed or killed, or cruelly beaten or injured, maimed or mutilated, or deprived of necessary food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care to prevent suffering; or who shall willfully set on foot, instigate, engage in, or in any way further any act of cruelty to any animal, or any act tending to produce such cruelty, shall be guilty of a felony and shall be punished by imprisonment in the State Penitentiary not exceeding five (5) years, or by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding one (1) year, or by a fine not exceeding Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00). Any animal so maltreated or abused shall be considered an abused or neglected animal.

So very sorry that your cat suffered.

Kate, have you tried clasp style locks for your cages? The kind you have to physically pull back in order to open? That still may not be enough since we have had horses that could open just about any kind of lock that didn't require a key and I have heard of parrots that could do the same. Those are a pain to use, but it sounds like your dog is exceptionally clever and considers poultry to be interactive chew toys.

So sorry that you and Charlotte have both been ill and that you are experiencing so many tragedies in such a short period of time.

We did! I also went straight to the police a few months ago when he made the threat. I want the book thrown at him. The only thing is that the Sheriff is his best friend. And he himself is a Count Commissioner. He thinks he can do whatever he wants without any consequence. And so far he has! I have been having problems with him for some time. Sexual harassment, trespassing, threats, killing innocent animals and the list goes on. He once told me he will do whatever he wants because he is the CC. He has been trying to steal our property for a few years now and has told me he will have it. This cat killing is all over that.

Thank you! I don't know what they are called, but I put on some of the locks that you have to twist shut, the threads. I put them on her kennel too, but she somehow popped out the back part of the kennel this time and this is how she got out. So now I am having to buy more and just put them at every single joint of that kennel. A few months ago I did this for their outdoor pen too and it has worked so far on it. I just did not realize she was going to pop out the back of her kennel. She can even slide open her own lock too, but I have the latches that spin on the front and tighten them each night. It sounds like I might need to do the same on my poultry cages. But first I think I am going to build a new facility and try to fight any urge for any news one before making sure this is all done. I had started on one, but with all of this recent weather we have had the last couple of months stopped all that progress. Plus, I am needing some more materials and wish I had a clone. I found another place here in Cleveland that I can get some more pallets for free to use for internal walls and maybe fencing too. I am going to make a somewhat large coop with different section inside with a outdoor pen off of each one. Of course, they will be no where near the dogs. I am going to pad lock or some sort of lock that Miss Hudiny should not be able to open if she were ever to get out of her pen and try to go to this coop.

Did you see the suggestion to someone earlier today to use cattle fence panels to keep dogs out of the chicken coops?

You might look at some clasps used on horse tack. There is a variety called a "bull clasp" that I find a challenge to open and I can't do it with one hand. The clasp is very sturdy and requires that the two parts be pulled in opposite directions to unlock it. I bought some used tack at an auction with the intention of cutting off the clasps, but didn't look closely at what I was buying and ended up with bull clasps that are more trouble than they are worth to put on a rabbit cage. Not only would the rabbit not escape, but I would spend an extra few minutes per cage undoing the clasp each time I fed and watered them.

So what part of Norman do you live? I live east of Thunderbird Lake but teach in Norman.
Also what kind of birds do you have or want. If you are needing birds this is the place to get hooked up.

Uh oh! You scared her off, JJ. This is my Aunt. I know she reads on here sometimes, we were talking about it a while back. But she said she never says anything on BYC. She is pretty busy too with her horse ranch, oh and farmville, LOL. However, it looks like she might have joined us. I am really far behind since I have not been on here in a while and happened to see the name Skippacheval, which I know is her. This is a name of one of her horses, that I have grown up with. His name is Chevy, and is a great show horse. It made me do a double take though when I saw the posting. She is located near the river outside of Norman on the West side of I35.

Well, 9 out of the 12 D'Uccles seem to be developing. It looked like 10 of the 12 RIR started developing, but I believe 2 of them might not have made it, I have left them in there just in case. I also got a dozen of Partridge Cochins from Steph and I think most if not all are developing, some are hard to see through the shells. I also got 5 Blue Cochins from her, but none of them look like they developed.

I still left them though too. I am locking down tonight on them and they should be hatching this week, at least according to Char. I haven't gotten a new calendar and forgot to write it down. But Char is so good at these kind of things and figures it out right away and remembered for me. I love that girl! She is just so smart and such a great little girl (shoot she isn't so little anymore), I couldn't ask for a better child. I feel so blessed when it comes to Charlotte.

Kate, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. You are making me appreciate the neighbor I have. I just thought he was a pain.

I hope you are back in the area soon to visit. At least for POOPS though, huh?
