It will take a little while for Mr. Sunshine to do his magic.
It was nice to see the sun instead of snowflakes when I looked out this morning.

Donna you don't have time to clean stalls you need to be practicing.

Just got back from Cement. Saw Mueski and I think Gracefull, but she looked too nervous while the judge was looking at the birds so I didn't say hey. Brought my brother and his grandkids, who got a kick out of the miniature birds. Some were downright dainty! I think I now see the appeal of bantams. Not for me, but what others might see in them. We left early because the kids wanted to go swimming at the Y.

We have decided to go to the Blanchard goat auction, since they are going to have some kids available according to Jerry's post and this might be a good time to get a good deal on a couple of meat goats. May or may not stick around for poultry, depending on what kind of equipment I see piling up beforehand.

Hope everyone did well at the show.

Monty...if I get after it enough cleaning the pens out...get those hips swaying...arms moving...and whatever else that would shake...I WILL be practicing. I can sing at the top of my lungs and get no complaints from the birds!!LOL

And there won't be anyone to tell what the pitiful sight looked like. Heck, it might scare the birds to death...they may think they've been invaded by a monster. LOL

However, I may not be able to get out of bed for church in the morning so I better not get things swaying too far. LOL

Have a great day Monty.

Good afternoon morning whatever it is!! I had a moment to stop in and say howdy before we board our flight, hope everyone is doing well I haven't had a chance to catch up from the last week so I will do it this way, was there anything exciting happen this past week, I have decided that a week in Vegas is way to long and that I am a true addict I have been having the wife send pictures of my chicks all week long lol. Well I should be on here till my laptop battery runs down and should talk to everyone by 8 pm tonight but looks like a buch of youns will be at Blancard!!

Made it through our first 4-H show of the year
last night. We had a good turnout and a lot
of the kids have come up with some new,
for real show quality birds. TJ had to really
"kick it up a notch".............LOL

He came out of there with 6 blue ribbons, 1
4th place ribbon, he won showmanship,
and "eeked" out the Reserve Champion
embroidered camp chair. He has some
new birds, too. But, knows now, he's gonna
have to put in even more time being ready
for all the new competition. It's good for
him.

Quenston - You home yet ? Hope Carolyn
is doing much better. Wish I was close
enough to have fixed her a pot of stew
or something.

Anxious to hear how everything went at
Cement. Hope to see a bunch of you at
Pryor.

Have a good one !

Jason and I have decided to start the down sizing process of our flock and was wondering what would be a good selling price for our 6 month old Rhode Island Reds that include 2 roos and 11 soon to be laying hens? Any ideas what we could ask for them? Your input would be great guys... Thanks

Jeannie

Hi ya'll!! I'm popping on to say hey and popping right back off again - I'm going to be uber-busy working OUTSIDE in the COLD for the next few days on a commercial so I won't have time to post. Please try to keep it down to a few pages a day while I'm gone...ha!!

Jeannie - I haven't been to the auctions so I have no experience for you on a price for your little RIR flock - but it sounds like you should be able to get a pretty penny for them if they're at Point of Lay - would be cool if you could sell them together. I'm sure some of the auction addicts will be here soon!

Kate...so sorry for your recent troubles - I pray that your hostile neighbor situation is soon relieved.

Jeanie,

We sold 4 RIR pullets last month and they brought 8.50 each.. When it comes to an asking price, what you think they are worth is what you ask. In 2 months, you could ask 12.00 each and get it no problem.

Jason and I decided to down size so we can focus more of the monetary needs towards cleaning up, building and fencing our property in the way we want to have our place look in the long run, and we cant do that if we are focusing to quickly on trying to be "self sustained" instantly with all the animals we are bringing into the place. There is alot to contend with on the home as well that we would like see done(re wiring this 1942 home) but none of our true desires can be obtained if we keep forking out the money that does not grow on trees towards feeding the excess we dont truly need at the moment, if that makes sense. I would rather be smart now than stupid later.. ha ha ha

Jeannie - I agree....hang onto them for a month
or two longer. Healthy birds that age will bring
a premium price once the weather changes.
I know we've seen young hens go for up to
$18 each just at local auctions. And, the
Rhode Island Reds are very popular birds.

Have a good one !
