Q - that is always a touchy subject. I think i would mention it and let him make the next move. if he tries to make it right...good guy...if he totally blames you and acts all uppity...I would warn folks...

LOL< Teach you have a few. I think I feel your pain. I had three going & now down to two. As soon as the partridge hatch I will be down to just the sportsman.

Q I don't really know if I would say anything or not. I will leave that to the others that go to auctions to answer.

Hello Oklahoma!
woot.gif

Just a reminder that there are still lots of towns and cities right here in Oklahoma up for grabs in the BYC Chicken L.O.R.E. Project!

This is a massive undertaking, and everyone is encouraged to participate! Your knowledge of Chicken L.O.R.E. will earn you GFM Scratch, which are good towards new GFM Memberships, Membership extensions, or Membership gifts.

Remember - you don't have to select a city in Oklahoma - cruise the selection list and choose any city still available!

Get started now! Click on the Chicken L.O.R.E. link above for all the details, and remember your Project Managers are here to help in any way we can.

Good Luck, and Thanx for Joining In!

Good evening,

We found 6 eggs today in the nesting boxes... that means we now have 3 more hens laying us gifts!!

We are finding ourselves busy!... The plumber came out to inspect our sewer issues.. yea we have a problem...then we had to talk with EDQ before the plumber can actually legal work on the system and they said that the septic tank that was put in by the previous home owners back in 1988 was never approved and there are a few EPA violations......

so we are looking at some big moola spending here soon to replace the whole system

Although the price to have it replaced will bring us down a lil bit... at least we will know that it was replaced rightfully and with in code! and we will know we put the crap in it.. ha ha

Anyhow who is all going to Fletcher this weekend... I know this was probably asked but I was just checking.. I might take the kids with me... as Jason leaves in the morning for Texas (2 weeks)

That is my feeling on shipped eggs, I won't buy them. I don't mind buying at an auction but I know the most I will pay for them because I know there is always that chance of the person that didn't handle them correctly or they are old ect.

What will you look for next?

I agree with what Teach said.

I guess I have had pretty good luck with shipped eggs. 7 out of 12 hatched two years ago, shipped from Alabama. Last year I hatched 10 out of 13 from Michigan.

Mallen, sorry about the pullets. It hurts when you have better quality poultry and something happens to them. You don't ever get what they are really worth to you.

I can't spell tonight.

I had two different batches shipped at the same time & got nothing out of either, but at the same time hatching my own eggs with no problems.

Maybe someday I will try again but not unless it is something I can't find local.

Sorry to hear about the recent losses. We lost one to a skunk around midnight last night. The ground is really soft from the damp weather, so the skunk dug a trench which started nearly a foot back from the smallest chicken pen so that he could be deep enough to clear the electric wire above ground and the 6" of buried wire. He'd killed one RIR hen and was dragging her back out through the tunnel he'd made. It was dark, and he was quick, so I wasn't able to keep him from getting away. I put the remaining RIRs in the barn (they slept in the rafters) and had to use a shovel to put all the dirt back. This guy was an engineer! I've never seen such a deep, purposeful tunnel made in such a short time.

DH said he'd look into getting some traps when he gets back from his current assignment in Florida. He's there for work, and a million teenagers and college kids are there for Spring Break, freezing their behinds off because it's 50 degrees on the beach. They won't leave Florida with a tan; instead, they'll have pneumonia and frost bite.

Varmits are at it again. I saw a skunk on my back porch last week, eating cat food - so I put out a trap close to the porch and started putting up the cat food at night. Caught a possum this morning and set the trap again for the skunk. The cat got in the trap the first night and hubby suggested I put the trap somewhere the cat wasn't as likely to get in it. I figure the cat won't go near the trap again.
