Well the hen dsidn't show back up this morning. That means that we have lost three good hens in the last couple of months. IT looks like we are unwillingly downsizing. I guess I won't restock until after we move.

How is everyone else doing today?

It really just depends on the size of them and how they have been bred as to how good of layers they are. I have Silver's that are alittle bigger than my goldens and they are a little better layers than my goldens. As for the rooster it just depends on their temperment. I had a golden sebright rooster that I could stick babies in the pen and never have to worry about them, but with the rooster I have now I wouldnt do that. Sorry, I dont think this helps much, but with all chickens its just the luck of the draw on their temperment and their laying abilities.

Good Morning OKIES.

If they are pure, I wouldn't mind some. I can't tell the difference between my pure and crosses. All the eggs look the same. That would go a long way into restocking my flock. Of course I wouldn't need all of them. I don't have a big fancy incubator. Although I would like one. I have three styrofoam bators.

Howdy folks! I just got caught up. It's still snowing and blowing here in Tulsa - wet stuff and roads are frozen. By Tuesday it's supposed to be back up near 70 degrees.

I'm so glad Doc and Peaches elected to open the Fletcher auction and so many people got to go have fun, visit and buy/sell chickens.

Faerie - you are so talented! Cleaning is over-rated - anyone can do that. Knitting is so much more creative...and useful in this weather - you can't throw a dustpan around your neck and be fashionably warm!

I had to break into my chicken coop this morning - needed to check the inside waterer since the girls are too prissy to get out into the six inches of snow in the run to reach the outdoor waterer. The latch to the coop door was frozen shut with a layer of ice. I tried to get into the garage to get the handy 3 pound sledge to knock it open, but the garage door is swelled shut and the door opener to the electric car door is in my car inside the garage. So I went back into the house, got a hammer and got into the coop. Now I have to figure out how to get into the garage - the brooder box with the bantams is in there and I need to make sure they're okay with food and water. Jack has another garage door opener to my garage so if I can talk him into getting out and coming over I'll be able to check the peeps. My house/garage is 100 years old this year, and like the fine old vintage lady she is, she often becomes persnickety without notice about the most random things, and she must be treated carefully and with kindness. But I love her and figure if I take care of her she'll continue to take care of me.

Okla-Doodle Wayne!! Are you planning to come to POOPS? (say yes!!)

Matt - so glad you'll be there - and with birds!

Big Q : You can have all that white stuff, I am out LOL.

Steph : good to see you again, where ya been ??.

Peaches : LOL Ring man......... when did I get promoted ??, really I was just tryin to help you guy's out after Doc said he needed an extra hand. I was glad to see a nice turnout for you guy's, besides me and Hotdog had a good time playin hide and seek.

I have been hiding.... No, I have been busy. With Carl off and running most days I am the main one tending to the birds and all that are in the garage usually want food and water in the morning, and the babies want food and water again in the afternoon early evening so I just go play with the birds. I have been getting on here long enough to play catch up on posts but that is it.

Beth : I hear ya on the house front, I always enjoy taking great care and pride when I work on those old relics, I just love em, there so cool and with so much Character.
