Morning everyone,

We lost 2 chickens last night... a BR & RIR Hens
barnie.gif
made a miss count when we went to count chickens in the hen house after we spotted the run door had blown open and well they met their demise with our dog and our neighbors dog
he.gif
somad.gif
woke up at 3:15 to commotion outside and found them doing the dirty deed... by the time the neighbors darn dog spotted me and before I could reach for the gun to pop one on her butt... she took off(she knows better than to be over at my place) Jackson took off running too cause he knew he was in trouble...

Also have I mentioned how much I am hating this wind
rant.gif
its blowing garbage all over the place and makes it hard to pick up...

But on some lighter news I have started painting our kitchen and yesterday helped a young friend primer her sun room(her and her hubby bought their first home several months back) to get it ready to be painted( I love painting projects... actually I started it.. now she is helping me finish it for her.. tee hee)

What are you hatching these days? Are you still working on a standard Cornish flock?

Mostly standard Dark Cornish, but I'm crossing a Delaware roo over some Cornish, as well. Later I will put a Cornish roo in the pen with the Delaware hens.

I never could bring myself to butcher my Buff Orpington roo, so there may be a few Cornish with his genes running around soon, although I now have them all separated so I can keep an eye the combination makeup. See which combo works best for my sustainable home meat project. I've gotten a lot of good ideas from the folks in the meat bird forum.

I have also decided Dark Cornish just don't work for dual purpose. A little tiny egg every other day doesn't really do it for me.

Folks have started to buy our eggs, and everyone wants dark eggs now days so we are hatching some of Carla's Cuckoo Marans. That will give them dark!

Hi everyone as you know P.O.O.P.S will be May 1st . There will be one meal this year. Most of the meat (thanks to our P.O.O.P.S fund from the fall) will be taken care of so we will be looking mainly for side dishes, deserts, casseroles, paper products, cutlery & drinks.

We will have limited outlets for crock pots if that is something you might be interested in, chicken & dumplings were a big hit along with that banana pudding. Keep in mind the number of people (aprox. 100) that will be attending when making your dish or dishes.

If you volunteer to bring drinks, paper products or cutlery please tell me the quantity you will bring, also the drinks will need to be on ice. I will also need 2 of the large drink coolers to make kool -aid & tea.

I will need volunteers to help with setting up the meal & cleaning up after.
Please PM me with Food in the subject line with what you plan to bring.
I will keep a running list to post from time to time.

BetsyOK-
Spoonbred Tamale Bake, made with ground bison~Cake or desert. (oven)
Les NNbreeder-

My ex-MIL has 4 chickens. She lives in Chicago. My ex-FIL has 4 or 5 chickens, and lives in Boston. So yeah... kinda ridiculous.

The following is a list of birds that will be available for sale at POOPS, contact me via PM with what you would like to offer for either of the 2 auctions or will be for sale outright.

Mornin' Okies
caf.gif
I'm taking a break from my day so far... got up, got the kiddo and my mom to the allergy clinic, then got them back to mom & dad's house (after side trips to the gas station, my mom wanted donuts which is a once a week deal so had to stop at the donut shop, then punting them out of my car
lol.png
). Then went to Mary's and hunted down Michael (that was easy, listen for the crowing!) and picked up a hen. She's currently going into quarantine
smile.png
D'Lynn wants to name her Sandstorm Jr after the MFC hen that we lost yesterday.

Cast off the shoulder shawl last night, just need to block it. Dunno when that will happen...
lol.png

Oh, I can bring a giant salad. If y'all want things like bacon bits, you'll have to bring 'em. I don't do even the fake bacon bits. But I do a mean salad (with croutons, so it's got wheat), almonds, cranberries, and cheese over mixed lettuce and baby spinach.

I love salad.

I think Poco was looking for some standard Dark Cornish cockerals.

Buster - a few months back when I saw you were planning to work with the Dark Cornish for laying and meat birds I wondered how yours would lay. Have you decided yet on another dual purpose breed?
