Evening Mrs.Queen Peaches. Well I am down to only one hen of the quail d'anvers and my wife keeps telling me to cut back so I guess I can load that pair up and bring them along too!The little roo is a real cutie. The d'anvers are a real personality breed and he has it all. The hen is in her first laying season.

Wow we are getting some of that wind here tonight. Its supposed to storm all night.Has that "stormy nite" feeling in the air. I hate it when its like that. Doesn't make a restful night.

Sounds like Mr.Al was being a bad boy tonight! Way to go Mr.Al!lol

A Very good friend of mine lives in Krebs, Dale Cantrell. He, and his wife, are prison guards at the "Big House" and ready to retire. He is already retired from the Army last December. Great people.

I graduated with Leroy Cantrell. He was from Krebs.

Dale and I celebrated our birthdays together this past Dec. he is 60 years old. I'm not yet. He and Leroy must be related.

You got 11 eggs even after the dog incident last night?? Great! You must be putting something special in their feed.

Sooner - good to see you today. Send me a PM some time and tell me if you've got wigglers in the first batch of eggs. I've got a hatch scheduled for Monday.

Hope the wind hasn't caused to much damage around town. It scooped up one of our chain-link dog kennel pens and brought it down on top of one of the EE hens. The rest of the EEs in that pen were still there when I discovered the damage. They could have left, easily, as the pen had come down nearly four feet away from its original spot, with one panel bent over the cinder block that's used inside the pen to elevate the water container. The edge of that panel looks like a broken arm, bent and twisted in a most unnatural way. I moved the remaining EEs into the barn. I'll have to see what can be done to repair the kennel panel tomorrow.

We have about close to 26 hens or so... even though we lost 2 last night to the dog incident... we had been collecting 8 eggs for several days now and we collect in the evening so we can make a proper count before everyone is turned in for the night.. tonight is the first night we had 11... nothing special just CO-OP Layer Feed.

No hard feelings about the Blanchard thing.. ha ha ... I am a big girl I dont need to be acknowledged ... I think I annoy folks more than I can contribute in regards to chickens on this thread... I have no bator sense, dont really know the breeds all that well..

We missed your smile and great sense of humor.

Gotta ask a question. I still have a hard time identifying baby chicks as they hatch out. How can I improve on this? I thought about taking some zip ties and putting them on at birth but didn't know if it was wise. Any advise out there?

You can make hatching containers out of hardware cloth or wire and put the eggs in those when you move the eggs to the hatcher.
That way when the eggs hatch you will know what chicks are what. Its kind of a hassle but it works.
Yes iI know, I am brilliant.
