Monty I my hatcher is already made that way. I guess I didn't make myself very clear. The problem is when I've put them in the brooder and they get all mixed up, starting to get some feathers and change in their looks I don't know what's what on some of them. Like right now I have about 50 or chicks that are about 3 weeks old. I know there are some that I really wanted to keep but I don't know which ones cause they've changed so much....I know I'm a birdbrain. I thought if I could color code them then I would know for sure what they are.

I was out in it some today. It got cold so I came home. I don't do cold.

How you been?

-Stimp-

Doing great until I found all my dead babies this morning. It was not a pretty sight. Are you bringing your DW to POOPS this year? I really enjoyed visiting last year with her.

I guess I am not so brilliant huh?

You can paint their toenails with different colored fingernail polish or you could study real hard on chick identification.
A small zip tie might work too but since they grow pretty fast you would have to keep changing them as they grew.

Are you joking me or are you for real about the toe nail polish? Would it really stay on after walking around in that poop and junk? And as far as the studying up on the chicks...where would I go for that? I would gladly do that . I need to sell some of these babies but I don't want to sell any that I should keep.

You would have to keep applying the polish pretty often so it could become a hassle.
There is a toe punch system that breeders use but I am not surre how it works.
You punch a hole on different toes on different feet of different breeds. Again I am not sure how they do it, but it is very common. I'll try and find out more on it but I am heading to bed in a minute so you will have to be patient.

I'm hitting the sack also. Richard is watching some movie but not me. I have to work extra hard on that beauty sleep catagory. I think he's just given up on that. LOL Night and have a great service tomorrow.

Poco, if you are looking for cockerels as City says, I have a couple of extras. One was hatched July 31 and the other looks like he is almost a year old. Big fella but a little too aggressive for my place. I can send one or both of them to POOPS with somebody if you are interested.

Buster52,

I prefer the least aggressive cockerel. Send me a PM with your price and we'll arrange things. I can handle cranky boy birds, but I'd rather have one that doesn't black my shins every time I go into the pen to feed and water.

Well, to be clear, he is only mean to other roosters, not humans. He has never ever come close to being any kind of aggressive toward a human.

But other roos, he is pretty rough on. Even when they aren't eying the hens, he goes after them. It took him about 3 days to establish himself as top roo of the place, and normally they settle in and relax once that is established. Doesn't hurt them, but is always chasing them and that makes everyone nervous, including the hens.

Right now he is in a pasture pen with 5 DC hens and everyone is much more settled around the place. Most of my birds free range during the day most days, which is why he isn't a good fit.

I graduated with Leroy Cantrell. He was from Krebs.

Dale and I celebrated our birthdays together this past Dec. he is 60 years old. I'm not yet. He and Leroy must be related.

Woe. Retired Army, but was Dale ever in the Marines? Like in the late 60s/early 70s? And was he ever stationed at Alameda NAS?

Is it my imagination, or is Blanchard selling more and more CRAP now days???

Man, seemed to take forever to get to the chickens for all the junk. I'm starting to see what you mean about that sort of thing, Al.
