Thats what I use. You can stitch it together to make big sheets of it. It probably can't keep out a determined Coon or Possum. Though I haven't had a Coon get in yet. I think the "tangle" factor keeps them out. It sure works great to keep out the Hawks though.

edited to add that mine is 1/2" squares.

BUYING & SELLING/SWAPING OF BIRDS AT "POOPS"

It has come to my attention that there is a bit of confusion in regards the different methods of aquiring poultry at POOPS 2010.
some folks are under the impression that there isn't or won't be a traditional swap at this years POOPS, this not true. People are definitly encouraged to swap birds in the traditional manner as we have had in the past, you are most certainly welcomed to make pre-arranged sales. post what you will have for sale or trade and deal away, I may have not been as clear as I could have been in previous post regarding the swap, My appologies.

What I was attempting to do was to make available to buy various poultry breeds to the folks who attend without having made any pre-arranged deals on birds. Last year we had well over 125 people attend 2009 POOPS and they told me they thought there would be birds for sale, this is because as they were looking for birds to buy, most of the stock was already sold. That was also one of the reasons for having the auctions, so that these folks could at least attempt to buy birds that way. I was trying to encourage ours members to bring some birds that will be open for sale in any of the three methods.

Our POOPS events were envisioned as a way for all of our members to get together and have fun in a variety of ways in regards to the buying / selling and swapping of poultry. I was trying to avoid having folks arrive and be looking for birds to buy and then not finding any for sale, I know that some people do not want to bring any unsold birds to POOPS for fear of having to bring them back home, hence the 2 different auctions. I have invited several people who normaly buy & sell large numbers of birds frequently to attend and perhaps take extra birds off members hands if they don't sell and are placed in the auctions.

I was also trying to avoid having our swap at POOPS turn into just a delivery point for pre-arranged sales and have a vast number of our membership left out in the cold in the buying / selling process. So I hope you can now see what I am trying to do here, which is the very difficult task of trying to please 200 very demanding members, who sometimes want things done just for them instead of trying to make this event an event for all and not just the selected few. I would certainly love to have someone else take over this task of pleasing everybody but there are never any takers willing to invest the endless time and effort !!!.

So for those of you who are confused perhaps this post will clarify any misconceptions, please feel free to read this post as often as nessesary so the wrong idea doesn't get posted and cirrculated.

Actually I don't drink coffee unless its cold outside. For some strange reason, I don't think I will need any today.

I drink coffee all the time. It'll be 100+ outside and I'll drink coffee. You can stand your spoon up in my coffee... I like it strong. I add a bit of cream to take the acid edge off.

Al -
Thanks for the clarification on the bird sales and swaps. I am one of those who has pre-arranged one trade for delivery at POOPS, but intends to bring stuff for the auction so I don't have to worry about it once I get there.
You do a fantastic job of organizing this

I use it on top of a run and had some bunched up on the end. One day it cought a snake. Darn snake was really really stuck. So even tho its not really strong I agree with the tangle effect. Chickens get their nails stuck bad too.

Wall's had it in 28'x26.5' for $5.99. The same stuff at Atwoods last Fall was $30.00 I picked up for packages. I figured I could use it for something.

Dang I wish I lived near a Walls. If you pick up a few extra I will buy them from you. Priced the poultry netting online and they wanted alot more then even Atwoods was selling it. I would so like to get my pen covered to protect from the hawks and kestrals we have. I think my sultan hen got eaten by a hawk Saturday or Sunday. I found a few feathers that had been pulled out not chewed off. Stupid bird would not stay off the roof of the coop and stupid me for not clipping her wings when I thought of it.

That was an owl that got that bird. I had some yard mutts that roosted on top of the cages and they slept with their head low and tail up. Started missing tail feathers so the got put up.

A few nights later there was a commotion in the pen and an owl had slipped under the netting and a duck hen had the owl in the corner beating the tar out of him. He would try to climb out and she would reach up and pull him back down and whip on him some more! Took the net and scooped him up and rescued him. Turned him loose and the stupid thing followed me around as I was walking back to the house. I finally had to shoo him away.

It was an American Short-Eared owl.
