Hmm... Do I detect a kindred spirit?
It's the cover of his newest book, which I am currently reading (see signature line).
I'm a librarian. I like to promote good books.
I used to carpool with a librarian, we were both working a "transitional" job. She moved due to divorced and my job got send to India. Since I
assumed she liked books. I asked her what sheliked to read. She said "oh, I've never been much of a reader". I was a bit a-gog. I asked her if she had a thing for the Dewey Decimal System. her response was she just liked the quiet. Fair enough answer I guess.
I love the the scientific Richard Dawkins and have red a couple of his books but the politics that surround him, well I just stay out of it.
I haven't read a lot of Dawkins, but of what I have, this is by far the least shrill. More like a just-the-facts rather than a lot of ranting.
I had a library director like that. Never figured out how he advanced that high.
But not everyone who works in a library is a librarian, so maybe that was it. Just like not everyone who works in a school is a teacher. It tends not to matter much for a lot of library staff.
Does to me, though. I won't even hire someone for a clerk or library aide position if they aren't readers, and my interviews are peppered with questions to test them on it, even if they are only going to shelve books. I like people who love their jobs. Can't love library work if you don't love books, I figure.
Anyway, welcome to the thread, if I haven't said it already.
