Sounds like you had a fun weekend Sooner. Thats great! We went to the daughters for supper last night and fireworks. Today we slept in ,then played in the pool ,cleaned house,and watched movies. So it was a fun and relaxing weekend. Brenda leaves wed to go with daughter and grands to Mertle Beach for four days. I am happy to be batching it.Plenty of critters to keep me busy. We weaned the Taco bell puppy yesterday so she is always needey now!. Had 15 more chicks hatch out today!I think I am going to give up on the OEGBs .I like them because they are so tiny and cute but I have a real hard time getting them to live as babys. The rock and rock crosses are so much thriftyer and easy to raise. I have white rock,barred rock,buff rock,comets and wyandotte juveniles now. They are really cute little fluff balls.

Sounds like you will have a nice four days doing man things!! I can't believe you are still hatching!!! I stopped & have too many to feed now!

I did have a good weekend & I am really glad I took it!! I think I will take another later in the summer.

I agree that it is way cool how they all gather at dusk and go inside the coop on their own. This evening, as I easily caught the last two baby chicks that were wandering around the cage I repaired this afternoon, I questioned why I spent so much time and energy trying to catch them this afternoon. I generally try and gather chickens for sorting in the evening. I don't know why I didn't just wait until after dark to chase those two baby chicks. It is logical that they would have the roosting behaviour after dark as an adult and they were hanging out on top of the cage they wanted to be in, making them easy to catch.

From what I've read it's also much easier to catch chickens after dark as they go into a stupor. I haven't seen this behavior yet as I have a light on in the chicken coop. I will unplug the light and remove it tomorrow (Time got away from me today and they're running around and I'd hate to leave them in a lurch in darkness.

Sooner I like to keep hatching as long as the broodys keep it up! The later fall chicks if you can raise them are usually good birds.

I picked another pint of blackberries tonight,they are comming on slow this year. I'm afraid our summer drought is starting. Having to water the garden and flowers everyday.

Isaw on craiglst,OKC,someone had some pretty mottled OEGBs for sale.
Sure wish our missing buddys would start comming to visit again. Miss them Henry boys!lol NaNa are you and your bunch doing Ok?I guess Mr.Bill is staying out of trouble!lol.

Good morning all. Hope everyone had a good long weekend. I did my hens started laying and my roo started crowing. But I am starting to think I have to much stuff going on. Rabbits chickens ducks peacock and turkeys. Well back to work today. yuck

Wayne, I have broodies but no eggs from the right kind of chicken that I want hatched. I went out this morning & I have two more that seem to want to set, I just broke two the other day......Maybe I will try some dandvers......
