Years ago my Grandmother would always say that only a skunk eats the head and neck and into the body of a chicken and leaves the rest of it like that,

I've never had raccoon problems mostly just snakes and hawks (and my neighbors dogs) and back then it was skunks we found out a whole family of them were living under part of our barn and raiding every night, we shot 6 one evening alone,

I would set live traps along the sides of your pens if you have them, I keep live traps set and after a couple times of being caught the neighbors dogs stopped digging around the coop and pen. If your close by I could offer to help with trapping and relocating whatever it was got them, EL

only problem I ever had with skunks is eating the eggs.

Good morning Okies how is everyone today. I just got some EE's and Cornish rocks in this morning so spent long hours doing the good ol disinfecting the brooder house. anyhow Hope everyone is doing well On this fine day.

Good Day to ya all!

JessW--Oh man that really is awful...

Les is right though, an 8ft fence is merely an obstacle for a racoon. I have seen those things climb stuff in seconds that a cat would have trouble climbing. Good luck in trapping him or however he gets dispatched! And beware also, as once you eliminate one, there are others that will move into the territory. This is why we go in each night to lock the coop doors and have made sure that there aren't any ledges near windows, etc so they can't break in. They are VERY clever and will come around each night to check if there is an opening, somewhere...have I mentioned that I hate racoons?

Well, I got the major part of the mowing done yesterday and didn't even come in until it was almost dark. It feels good to have that chore out of the way so that this weekend I can build some tractors like MMPoultry!

I also love it when it is mowed because I feel less like the movie "The Ghost and the Darkness" and like the lions are waiting in the grass to get me! Plus it makes it so much easier to walk in and to catch grasshoppers for the hens...

Well, back to work for me...for at least a few minutes...
