Ok, I am knew at this so this may be an ignorant question. Can a chicken lay more than one egg a day?

The reason I ask is because I thought that I had 3 EE hens but two were killed night before last by a racoon, I think. However, today I got two blue eggs. Is it possible that the remaining hen laid two eggs or do I have an addition EE that I may not have identified?

I also had two unusually colored eggs today. They are the first of this color. The color in the pic might be slightly off. The are not white or brown. The are almost a gray stone color. What could be laying these?

The Jones poultry auction was closed but the horse/livestock auction is every Thursday night and starts at 5pm. The Jones junk sale is the first Sunday of the month and starts at 1pm....ish

Good score Jeannie! I love great scores like that.

I am looking for cheap carports or patio shades--maybe those that have been damaged by the recent storms. If anyone sees something of interest, please let me know. I have got to get better shade out in the big coop yard...it is tarped at present but I'd like something a little more sturdy...and not as apt to end up in Kansas! vern and I can fix almost anything so some damage is OK...

HELP.... I hate to ask..

Our Black cochin hen seems to have a problem...
She is eating and walking all over BUT as everyone
got cooled off by the frozen bottles and misters in the
yard she was still panting... Then I thought I saw her
but. Now you all know they have huge fluffy butts so
I thought that was wrong. YES it was wrong. She has
some type of swollen round lump kind of high above her
vent. I soaked her in some cool water and she seemed
stop pantting but went right back to it as soon as we put
her in a kennel. Is this maybe just the heat or should I
worry?

Usually the oil gland is either white or pinkish and devoid of feathers around it. Sometimes if the bird doesn't preen as it should it can get rather large until the bird releases the excess oil. And it is located at the base of the tail and above the vent..

If it is the entire general area that is swollen I too would say she could be egg bound but usually egg bound hens walk upright like a penguin.

As you know Cochins are blessed with feathers and yes they do tend to overheat easily.

Now that it's easier to tell the difference, I've realized that we still have too many Buckeye roos. Handsome as they are, I won't be able to keep them forever.

On a side note, can anyone tell me how its possible to brush two dogs and end up with enough hair to make half a dozen new dogs?
