Carla, I'm not that great with directions, but I can give you a general idea of how we get there

From Durant, you go east until you pass https://www.backyardchickens.com/img/smilies/hmm.png[/IMG]e]Potter's Sausage (<---that is a click-able link to show where "J. C. Potter Sausage" is), then right after that, you will see cars parked everywhere to your left (North) and that's it!

You have to turn down a long dirt road - but cars are usually parked down both sides and sometimes even into the highway - and at the end of that road there is a big old-looking barn which belongs to John Teel who is the auctioneer.
I've never once heard of this auction being cancelled, so I'm sure there will be one on the 6th

Oh, y'all might want to think of getting a motel room, though. If you plan to stay until the end of the auction, you will probably both be too tired to drive home!
I can some-what understand what you are going through with having too many birds :aww I'm sure that once they are grown it will be easier for you to decide which you want to get rid of, though

Oh, and if y'all are seriously planing on coming down here, I am seriously (

) going to think about getting some Spitz or Barbanters from you

If I knew the auction would have Welsummers and/or Marans I would come plus I would buy your Marans. How many do you have? I forgot what you told me.
I wish the auction was on a weekend. Is there another Durant auction or is that it? I forgot about J.C. P:eek:tter Sausage being there. Peanuts and sausage, what a combo plus you have ole Southeastern there. My old rival from years long gone. Is Naifeh's steakhouse still there? The memories are coming back.

I know there is/was a Naifehs in Calera, but I don't particularly remember one in Durant... well, steak never was my thing

I actually have only gone to this auction twice, but I know that both times I was there, there was a small frock of Welsummers for sale (10-15 hens and a couple of roosters). And the one this past Tuesday, there were Welsummer and Cuckoo Maran eggs and chicks.
This is the only poultry auction any where in this area.
I have 3 Maran hens.
Not only does Durant have peanuts, sausage, and a college, it also has the newly-built huge Choctaw coliseum, casino, hotel, and arena!

How's everyone been doing? I don't have time to read through all of the posts I've missed.

I have to work until 5:00 on Saturday, so I am not sure if I will make it to the Cement auction. I will try my best, I have some chicks to deliver. I'll let everyone know by tomorrow night.

Tonight I had a first-time experience... When I have eggs that have developed but don't hatch, I leave them in the incubator for a week just to be sure. Tonight I came home to find that one had popped in places and was oozing nastiness. When I went to take it out it smelled horendous, so I at least thought to use a trash bag to pick it up. Thank goodness, because it went ahead and exploded and my thumb went through it...

I don't think any of my last batch of eggs is going to hatch. Out of 15, I only had four develop, and they aren't peeping yet.

I'm just pathetic!

I talked to Kaacres today, I can't believe they really stole her guineas. I didn't think about coaxing them back with others. Maybe she can get a couple at the auction tomorrow night.

Still no pips or peeps... No d'Uccles and no Frizzles...

Anyone have any eggs???

okie16...
If it were me (and understand I am new), I would definitely use a ramp and I think you should be oksy as long as it is only open enough for the chickens. Just make sure climbing critters don't get in (cats, etc.)

Just my amateur thought!

OKCarla...

Thank you so much for your help!!!!!!! When I got in this evening and saw what you had done, it made me cry.

Only to be followed by checking my PMs and finding that a VERY generous fellow Okie has offered to donate Guineas to the cause! I don't want to release this person's name without their permission, but please know that we have some very terrific people among us!!! But hey, I do think all of you are wonderful!!!! I mean we are Okies!!!!!!
