Hey Beth! They were sooo excited about it. There was just one judge for the entire poultry show. There was only about 50 birds in this. It was the free fair for 4H and FFA. We were the only ones from Bixby. Skiatook was there, and a few other places. My oldest boy with the Turken is the most serious. During showmanship the judge asked him if she was half Turkey.

You should have seen the look on Ian's face!

He had this look on his face like, "OMG this guy thinks my bird is half turkey and he's the judge!!!"
th.gif
He said, "What??" and the judge repeated the question, and poor Ian...he was really trying to hold it together, and said no. Then the judge started laughing and slapped him on the shoulder. Finally Ian realized he was teasing him.

I think the judge liked his reaction. He asked my 15 yo daughter what color eggs her rooster layed, and she told him BLUE!

She's kind of a ditz. He had a good laugh about that one! I think he liked Ian being a little indignant. Showed he knew the breed.

Thanks for the info on the NN's. I will pm them and see. You wouldn't believe the comments about the poor NN at the show. Everyone was horrified we brought such an obviously sick bird to the show! You should have seen their faces when she won Reserve Grand Champion!

Thanks to everyone for the info!

Strange things going on in my henhouse, I've got 2 hens that are laying eggs on the ground, not in nest just seems to drop them whereever they happen to be, I was down to about 50lbs of feed in the feeder and added a new bag now they are raking all the feed out on the ground and eating from the back of it as if the new feed tastes better to them.

What causes eggs to be misshapen and have weak spots and wrinkles in the shell? I was wondering if it might be worms??,

I lost another hen yesterday one I got from Okiechick57 :-( Seems like I lose about one a month but it's been a couple months since the last one, I didn't notice anything going on with her just came home and she was just dead. I'm worried I might have something going on I don't want to treat them unless I need to and have no idea what to treat for anyway, Any suggestions?

hi guys- just met up with aCuban to pick up her injured cockeral, he got his leg broke and will try to rehab him- here are a few shots-

any suggestions on treatment options?
he is on LY50, vitamins in the water and game bird feed in a cage so his movement is limited his appetite is great..

Take it back, get a full refund, and ask them to open (and then re-tape) your replacement bag... just to be sure you don't have to go through this agian.
This has happened to me once with buggy feed, and once with badly molded feed

Those judges and their questions *shakes head*. There is a girl I showed with, who really knows her chickens, but one time a judge asked her what variety her bird's parents were and she said she bought the bird at another poultry show and didn't get to see it's parents.... after wards, she said "duh! They would be the same variety their son was!"
