Got to get off the computer and feed and water all the birds, so I can go to Fletcher this evening and not have to take care of anything when I get home. Supposed to get really hot today, so everyone take care and stay hydrated.
Had three "lost" chicks yesterday afternoon - Jaxon couldn't figure out which hen hatched them since they were wandering around in the flight pen, getting pecked on by all the "snake eating chickens" as he calls the Malays. I found empty hatched shells beneath the Saipan hen so gave her the two larger of the chicks and recognized the smaller of the chicks as one hatched by a Malay yesterday morning, that we put in a cage with mama and the unhatched eggs. The chick was small enough to go through the wire on the front of the cage where there wasn't a metal guard, so I put that chick back with its Malay mama. Unfortunately, she decided to brood the chick away from the rest of her unhatched eggs that were in the cage also, so those are a loss. Hopefully, I can graft some chicks to her from the ones due to hatch this weekend in the incubator. It seems like such a waste to have one chick being raised by a mama hen and having to feed and water them separate from the rest of the chickens to protect the chick.
