Sounds like you need to build some mini-fences around the trees with poison ivy and put goats in there to eat the poison ivy. Just don't touch the goats after they have been in with the poison ivy (not a good place to use dairy goats since you have to touch and handle those on a daily basis)

I don't think hickory nuts have enough meat to make them worth the effort, since the flavor isn't uniquely spectacular. . . Just my opinion.

The house did not have a pantry so this is the one Jason and I built utilizing the whole north wall as you come into the mud room underneith the rooster skirt are bigger shelves holding my pots, canning supplies ect

This is one of the old cabinets that my elderly neighbor gave us a while back when him and the mrs were remodeling their kitchen, I plan on locating coat hooks and attaching them underneith the cabinet so we can bust out the fall/winter coats( my Carhart is calling my name) and hang them for easy reach.

I found this at one of the local Goodwills I frequently shop around (or donate too) for a .99 cents... I love it as it was the perfect thing to hold the keys.

Yep I am a hillbilly and proud of it... I bet my grandma and grandpa are smiling down or looking up....

P&B thanks on the update on Stimp. That is Great news!Just this morning my wife ask how he was doing and I told her last I heard he was getting better. But sounds like he is even better than I thought. Tell him and Lou we are continueing our prayers.

P&B ,back in the eastern part of the stae the indians(cherokees) used to get the goodies out of the hickory nuts and make ca-nut-chie(spelling as I remember it sounded). It was a kind of cheese spread made out of nuts.I never developed a taste for it. Wonder if anyone still makes it. This was back when I was a kid and only the old timer indians did it then. Oh yeah Chickens,Chickens and more Chickens!lol

We have been gone quite a while from BYC

Finally had some time off from work this holiday weekend and have been just too busy. It seems that all we do is work, sleep or feed & water the critters, but mostly we have to be at work. The 7 days a week bit and overtime every day is really hard the older we get. I try to read all the posts as often as I can, but have been too tired & brain is too fried to try to think of anything to say.

All the overtime we've had to work lately is making me question whether we should seriously cut back on critters, starting with the birds. It sure is difficult to cut back when I enjoy them all, but we do need to cut down on our feed bill.

Hope to see lots of Okies at an auction in the near future ... if I don't have to work. Well, if not an auction in the near future, hopefully the bird show in Shawnee in December
