The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture will come out and test your flock for a small fee. I had them come out in 2007. They tested a representative sample of my flock (more than 30 birds tested) and charged me $10. At that time, they indicated they were trying to build a data base of poultry owners/sellers in Oklahoma, in order to have a starting point to check in case any cases of Avian flu turn up in Oklahoma.

The phone number on my NPIP Flock certificate is 405-521-3864 in case anyone wants to have the Department of Agriculture come out and NPIP certificate you.

I don't know whether it is true, but someone who was showing birds last year told me that if you have a vet do the pullorum-typhoid test, like if you were going to a show and need a NPIP certificate, it will cost about that much for one bird.

Monty, I'm so glad you only need minor surgery. I've heard of too many horror stories of people having back surgery and feeling worse afterward. I hope you have full recovery soon!

Poultryand bees, I'm going to call that number tomorrow & see if they'll come check my birds. Thanks for the info.

My flock is NPIP certified, so I will try to answer everyones questions on that matter:

Poultryand bees, I beieve the $10 'special' is over - that was just a deal when they were testing for AI. It is back to the normal pricing now: $0.50 per Chicken, $1.00 per Waterfowl, and the milage cost for the tester.

I don't know whether it is true, but someone who was showing birds last year told me that if you have a vet do the pullorum-typhoid test, like if you were going to a show and need a NPIP certificate, it will cost about that much for one bird.

You always have to have a NPIP certificate to show in any Oklahoma APA/ABA Poultry Show, unless you want to get your birds tested there.

I wouldn't go that far. According to NPIP regulations, you can bring in any birds you want to, but you have to get your whole flock tested once a year.

Carla, thank you for coming to take the Orps and return Grace's d'Uccles. I hope they are doing well.

Grace, Carla has your d'Uccles. *haha* And she's right, they are the cutest!!

I still have everything else available. I'm waiting until the birds are all sold before I sell feeders, coops, etc. Kaacres, the feeders and waterers are all yours, what you want of them anyway.

I moved my two banty hens in with the Runner, so it wouldn't be alone. The hens love it! They are so happy being away from the roos, and the Silkie has finally made a nest and laid an egg in it! The little ducker is quacking now too. I will miss them so much...

I went down to the stream behind our new house today to look at the ducks, and found an egg that had rolled away from wherever the nest was. I got so excited, but 'candled' it and it was very rotten. I could smell it through the shell. *ha* And Clark was even dissappointed; he said he would like to have a Mallard. I thought about maybe hatching some duck eggs and taking them to the stream.

okcarla, Buckguy20 - thanks for the responses! Its quite interesting hearing how these chicks are developing. I contacted Margaret to get some Marans eggs from her - I like to know what's behind the animals I buy *g*

I won't make it to Harrah - being out in Okmulgee its a wee bit of a drive for us.

Cammie, Carla said the d'Uccles are doing great. She has them separated with Silkies of the same age that I might just have to buy to "keep them company"

(no, seriously, I am getting some Silkie "friends" from her for the d'Uccles

You need to get it before you leave today

Carla, it was great meeting you and Gerald last night! I wanted to stay and visit, but Dad had the "strange" idea that the longer I stayed, the more birds I would come home with
lol.png

Thank you for the Spitzhauben eggs (it was also nice for me to finally learn how to pronounce it!)
Gerald gave me the second batch of chicks in the cardboard box, so I didn't even realize that it had a waterer in it! I want to send you some MF d'Uccle eggs anyway, so I will just stick the water base in with them when I mail it.
So.... did you like the auction? Was it hard to find from my "directions"
lol.png
? What did you buy?

Okiechick, we miss you too! I hope things calm down for you

Grace, so nice to meet you!

Yes, your directions were great. I printed out the map, but forgot to grab the detailed directions & left them at home by the printer. We did accidently take old Hwy 70, but it finally met up with the other, and we found the auction. I'm sorry we didn't have longer to chat ... they were in the middle of selling eggs & then baby chicks when you arrived ... and those were the only things I was interested in ... and I had a migraine headache last night to top it all off

We only bought 12 Wellsummers chicks for $2.20 each. Nothing else. Yes, I forgot the red waterer base, but you can keep it & use it with a mason jar if you'd like. We have lots of them here that I bought. Yes ... I still would like some mille fleur eggs!

The Blue Auction was definitely a different kind of place to go ... it was nothing like what I expected. The auction barn was dark and dirty & trashy & junk was stacked along the walls and big junk was everywhere outside (I guess from previously unsold auctions?) Inside the barn, the area where the baby chicks and eggs were stacked (at least 5 feet high) was even scary ... boxes upon boxes of eggs & chicks on top of each other. I'm suprised some of the chicks didn't get crushed. I wanted to be able to get a closer look at the boxes of eggs & chicks before the auction began, but it was impossible to see anything other than the ones on the top & sides of the huge pile of boxes. There was a dead chicken on the floor, next to the stack of baby chicks & eggs, that nobody had bothered to dispose of. The place was packed full of people, too. The prices were low ... large eating eggs went for around $1.20 a dozen, most hatching eggs went for less than $3 a dozen but not more than $5-6 for the most expensive. There were a whole lot of baby ducks and geese ... going for less than $3 each, most chicks went for around a dollar each, some less ... I think the Welsummers were the most expensive. Although the prices were extremely low and there were lots of choices & variety on the birds ... I don't think we want to go back. I like a cleaner, brighter environment. The Harrah and Cement auctions are so much nicer! OK, if it were closer to home, we probably would be going again ... it's hard to resist an auction. Oh and I forgot ... baby goats were selling incredibly low ... like $12 on up. There were 2 baby female boar goats that the owner PO'd because they only went up to 30 something. Gosh, if I were looking for a goat ... that would be a great place to go ... and they were even selling puppies there, too.

We look forward to the Monroe auction on Friday!
