good morning Okies!
Looks like Fall temperatures are here - hard to believe that although we had temps in the 90s just two weeks ago it is only 44 degrees this morning . Hope I don't have too many chicks that haystacked last night for warmth.

I attended the Newcastle auction last night for the first time and had fun visiting with Stephanie, Carl, and Gerald. Met Modernman and saw yonderOak and some other BYCers. I thought that I was ready to shut down the incubator, but it looks like I will be cleaning it out this afternoon and getting it started again. I will put 2 dozen under the hen that wants to go broody.

Marning everyone,barely,almost noon.
Had a good time at the auction yesterday but didn't buy anything! Saw a lot of stuff I want when I get back on the farm but its way to early to start getting that stuiff now!
Its cold here today too. Wife has a comapany reunion(the hospital that went out of business) this afternoon so I am cooking! Have a bannana pudding done,Now working on potatoe soup and chicken and noodles.Wife is getting redy too.She is taking a beauty nap! Guess I'm just hen-pecked!

Seems a lot of folks are haveing sick birds this fall. Seems it usually happens every fall. Lots of young birds getting their first imunities built up. I think the wild birds bring a lot of it in. The sparrows are moulting and are always sickly at that time and hang around the pens for easy feed.

Have some real cute young birds comming on. The wayandotte chicks are the cutes. I ahve about 20 in the brooder now, seven of them are nns. Hopeing for more hens. I have seven now.

Well better go check the kitchen, have a great afternoon.

Well, I've been reading several of the threads over the past few days about sexing the baby chicks. If I understand the info, it is not definate 100%, but more likely then not if your chick is slow to develop tail feathers it is most likely a male. Well all my girls have nice little tails about an inch or so long at 2wks old, but the one that has the most unique (and I think pretty coloring) has no tail feathers yet, and it is the only one of 22 others. How accurate is the no tail feather thing?

Its usually pretty accurate Kass.Did you order sexed chicks,if so the lone one may be an extra shipping bird.

I think I saw on here someone has pycheron bantams. Who are you? I have chance to get a pair of the blue-porcelian phase for $35. Does that sound good to anyone. Iam thinking it is since they are from eggs ordered from Hink-jc,one of the American starters of this breed. The hen is toppy but the roo doesn't show any yet.

Hi everyone, I see all the Okies are out enjoying this nice weather! It's been a great day for me. Had a wonderful service this morning, followed up by a visit from my cousin & grandma. After that I spent some time covering the north side of several of the coops. I also got to see my cabinets. They look great.

Be back later going to make some soap!

DH took me to the state fair yesterday to see the artwork, chickens, and lumberjacks. We also watched a talented group of jugglers (fire spinners) and some amazing acrobats.

As we walked into the Central Park building, I was thrilled so see ribbons attached to entries by my students. The categories they placed in include watercolor landscape, graphite pencil still life, graphite pencil nature scene, scratch art, and hand arts (sewn/painted sweatshirt).

I was disappointed that there weren't any ribbons on cages for the poultry show. We arrived around 10, so the judging was over and numbers were written on entry tags to show who placed first, second and third. If I had a winning bird I'd want a big blue ribbon pinned to the cage. It didn't help that the poultry cages were behind the petting zoo. I think a lot of folks gave up trying to see the poultry because they couldn't get past the gnarled mess of strollers and screaming toddlers. My camera batteries were dead before we got to the poultry show, so I don't have any pictures to post.

We saw a lot of people enjoying a ride that looked like a giant hamster ball on monster-bungee cords. Two people sit inside the hamster ball, which is thrust into the air, sling-shot style, to come bouncing back, and up, and back, and up enough times to scramble stomachs and brains. Screaming and crying were common side effects of the ride. We decided to watch from a safe distance.

Actually, I shut the sportsman style down two weeks ago, so today I vacumed out all the bits of shell, filled the 5 gallon bucket that feeds the water tray and loaded 5 flats of eggs into it. I also put 2 dozen of the turken and olive egger eggs beneath the broody hen - which certainly made her cackle and coo. At last night's auction, I bought 5 dozen eggs that Carla and Gerald had sold as "cold eggs," but since they were less than a week old, I went ahead and put them into the incubator - along with the guinea eggs I bought.

what kinds of things are in your soap? I bought several varieties of soap at Target today, because my hands are cracked and raw and I am trying to use a very gentle soap on them.
