Kwartel thats a pretty boy! I saw a pied up close at the amish sale recently. They really are awesome with those striking colors.Looks like he is walking the fence looking for a hole!lol. From what I've heard,be sure he doesn't find one or he will be gone!

Well I have another pen to square away tomorrow for the new shamos and then I think things are set for the winter. Except for the comming pigs that is. Still working on that problem!lol

Wayne I forget what kind of pigs did you get??? Sure wish I could say I was ready for winter but I am not. I did get some birds moved around tonight, I'm sure they will be going nuts tomorrow. None of the pens will get to free range.

They are just a mini pig. Not for sure what breeds are in their make-up. Only top out at around 150-200 pounds. I hope to get a guinea hog boar to breed them to. They are about the same size wise. Hope to be able to establish a "homesteading" size hog market for them.

My chickens did pretty good being moved around. Even layed in their new next boxes! Problem is now I have different breeds going. Didn't plan on keeping but two!I may not have any after my wife has to take care of them for two weeks!

She is not a "chicken" person. Maybe I should use football team names instead of breed names! Then she would be more to likeing them!

Hello all,

I lurk on here some but don't have much to post. I am in Tulsa with eight chickens (5 Production Reds, 3 Australorps). I have a few questions.

I wanted to see the birds at the Tulsa State Fair, but my son had a campout with Cub Scouts that weekend. Are there any other shows in NE Oklahoma anytime soon?

Also, I got my birds from Country Hatchery, and I have been very happy with them. However, it is my understanding that Country Hatchery closed. Is that right? Does anybody know why? Are there any other Oklahoma hatcheries now?

Where would you recommend getting local birds, should I need any? (I don't care if they are show quality. I just want nice chickens that lay well.)

He He I am pretty good at sexing Buckeyes. I blame AL for my addiction he gave me a very nice starter rooster. To bad he cant ever be official breed stock. But I am currently using him over some of my WPR hens for meat birds.

I don't know the answer regarding Country Hatchery or whether there are still any "hatcheries" in Oklahoma. That said, there are several folks on this thread who have their NPIP hatchery certificate. Some ship chicks and others only sell them for pickup from their home.

Yeah, mine have been good layers since they started and are nice and meaty. I haven't made the leap over to eating them yet, but someday it will happen when there are extra roos. It is too bad about the coloring problems that some of the major breeders have been having. I was hoping to buy some chicks from good show stock this fall or spring to add to our flock, but it seems that there are none to be had. Bil had ordered some chicks last spring to be delivered this fall, but that breeder has apparently had a run of bad luck. No chicks and no refund. I'm hoping that he gets it together and gets us some birds eventually.
