Is it in the dark part of the feathers looking kind of down and away?

Yes, the Hens wing is the forehead and the left eye is just under the chicks bottom.

I went to the fun and games thread and saw the outline, then back to the picture, still don't see it.

Robin, has she gone through her moult this year?

Usually it is some sort of stress causing that much featherloss, unless it's her time to moult. I'd think you could see if she had mites by inspecting the area around her vent. They look like tiny black specks that move.

She is most likely molting - some birds molt much faster and harder than others.
Of course, there was one suspicious case at my county fair where over-night a hen's cage went from having a beautiful chicken in it, to having a scraggly chicken (same bird) and a pile of feathers!! (We assumed it was from stress.)

I've always suspected something like that would happen to a bird kept in a controled environment (to delay moult). With the extreme change in temperature/noise level/ect... Max stress & feathers drop!

thanks guys- no this is her first molt- she is 2, and the banties have been doing it but not to such an enormous amount.... no bugs that i can tell, so she'll be happy to go out with her buddies tomorow-

grace- that is incredible- so they can drop feathers overnite like that? i would think this late in the season they wouldn't be dropping feathers-

I took one to the Shawnee Show last year. She looked pretty good the first day, and when she was judged, but was already losing feathers by the handfulls. Mine never go bald, but she shed them fast.
