Good Morning everyone! Last night was great having someone to chat with.

I have to say I am looking forward to the weekend!! I plan to get some chickens moved around & ready for winter now that I don't have all the roo's in the way.

I will also paint, so far I have one red wall! I won't get anything done tonight because we have to decorate a float for 4H

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma.

I see that you have been following our thread long enough to recognize there are fellow "chicken addicts" on here so I won't give you the standard "disclaimer" that warns about hanging out with "enablers"

Do you raise ball pythons to sell or are you a "rescue"? I have to admit that 10 of them boggles my mind.

What kind of chickens do you have and do you like to incubate and hatch chicks? Have you ever been to a poultry auction and if not, would you like to come to one and let us give you some pointers on ways to maximize the number of chickens you can fit inside a vehicle?

We obviously had a lot of the short posts since eliminating them dropped our post count by about 25,000 posts.

In response to your question about favorite kind of chicken and why - I like blue chickens that don't have feathers on their feet. Don't much care what variety they are, just not fond of feathers on the feet, although I am partial to EEs and NNs. I also like Narragannset turkeys, because they are so pretty and docile.

Edited because I didn't have enough zero's in the number of posts eliminated - guess my "chicken math" affects the way I do conventional math. 20 chickens + 20 chickens = 30 chickens (because with that many chickens, how are you going to get an accurate count?

Lynn, about 12-15 years or so ago, there was a BIG cougar in your area; a friend had a cast of one of its paws on her desk. I don't know how long they live, but I do know they have a wide range--maybe this one or one of its family? Scary in any case.

Beth, we had to put Sasha down a couple of weeks or so ago. Her tumors got to be too many and too large. After having the first two removed, she had more within two weeks, and it was obvious that further treatment was useless and unfair to her. Her life actually got better AFTER we got Shiloh, as they were congenial, and Shiloh was respectful and not at all rambunctious around her. Sasha started bringing her ball for us to play fetch with her again--she hadn't done that for some time. The vet wasn't at all surprised. Sasha also no longer had to be contained at all, so she was loose during the daytime as well as at night. Her last day, she didn't come to greet me at the back door in the morning--the first time ever--and she only moved about three feet when I approached her. It was very, very sad, but the vet said it was definitely time. She was 10.

good morning everyone, Just want to take the time to intoduce myself. Im new to the byc and and fairly new to chickensand am looking for people in the area to learn from and just chat with from time to time. My page tells a little about me so please chk it out. I have only been raising chkns since feb. but have totally been taken by them. I in the choctaw/jones area and would like to get to know all my neighbors. Just recently met okiechick57 and she gave me 2 roosters, had a wonderful time getting to know her and look forward to getting to know the rest of you. I will be at the show on the 11th, first time to go to a poltry show. The anticpation is building. Still figuring out the site a little but have come a long way from the 1st day. Right now im only raising for eggs but looking to get meaties in spring, and also very interested in showing. I dont know anything about that yet but am very interested in learning. Anyway i just wanted to get myself out there alittle and hope to here from everyone.

Hi there. I actually bought a couple of chickens in Jones. I am a fairly close neighbor (Tecumseh) but you have been keeping chickens longer than me. We've only had them since early October. My husband had them as a kid but I had never allowed them in our 16 year marriage. Finally I decided I would like my own eggs and now here I am in love with my chickens. Aren't you thrilled about the show in Shawnee? I can go and come home, then go again if I like! It looks like we have similar goals, eggs and meats also. I'm debating now whether to stick with dual purpose or actually get a meat breed. I will be at the show on Sat. morning so hopefully I will see you there.

Hay Barbie, I'm in Stillwater too and going to go to the show on Saturday, the 11th. I'll probably leave here around 10 a.m. or so, want to carpool? You can bring a carrier with you for any little Silky Chickens that think they need to follow you home.....

I would NOT enable a chicken addict.....not

much anyhow...

Hi Pat, thank you for the offer! I will have to see if I can get my mom from Enid to come with me or not. If she can go along, I can probably just go, but if I'm on my own, I may take you up on that. (My husband is staying home with the kids - he offered to come but he'd just be making me hurry along and I want to enjoy!) What kind of chickens do you have?

Good day to everyone.
I have lots to do so I probably won't be on too much today. So it is up to the rest of you to keep things hopping and keep Sooner entertained.
Sure was busy on here while my computer was down yesterday.
I am glad folks are getting excited about the Shawnee show. It should be fun plus we get to see lots of pretty birds from all over the country.
For you new folks that want to raise meat birds Al is our resident expert.
For disease info and control that would be NNbreeder.
PoultryandBees would be our top enabler.
Michael daugherty the best bird supplier.
Grace and several others can line you out about showing.
OKCarla sells many quality birds and hatching eggs and ships all over the country.
Sjarvis (Stephanie and Carl) and Yonderoak (Bob and Elle) also have very good breeding programs of various breeds.
Teach and I just cause trouble.
Well he does, I try and fix things.
Sorry if I left anyone off of the who to go to loop!
Again a hearty
welcome-byc.gif
to all of the new folks.

SO WHAT'S YOUR DISCUSSION TOPIC OF THE DAY ?
