spurs actually do have an outer covering - which is what I twist off when the spur gets too long for my safety. It will bleed a little bit when the outer shell is removed, but it doesn't bleed long if the entire horn is removed so that there isn't anything hanging loose to keep getting torn. Take a pair of pliers and gently twist the spur like you are unscrewing a bottle top. If it isn't already down to the bottom spur, the outer shell should twist right off.

i couldn't see anything but a bloodcovered spur, will check him in the morning- he seemed pretty oblivious to it

poco- gorgeous pup! i'd go with Vesta- it fits

next time you are holding him, check and see if his spurs are both about the same size. If one is much smaller, you may want to go ahead and twist off the outer shell of the other spur so that they "match." It really won't hurt him.

Thanks for the name input. I have a distant cousin in Germany named Vesta Lynn. I've always liked the name. DH will poll his friends via Facebook tonight. I hope we decide soon. I don't what her to think her name is Comeheresweetie.

We had Conner for two weeks before I could decide what to name him. The poor little guy believed his name was "Off!" He jumped into laps, jumped up to greet people, and jumped on DH to get him to play.
