Look what I found today at the stream behind my house! The two mallard pairs that are always around had a baby with them today too, but I couldn't get close enough for a good pic.

I found a group of eggs under a tree that looked like it used to be a nest, but a few of them were broken. I'm debating whether or not I should try incubating some of them...

Cammie, that is an awesome that you found a nest! You should probably watch the area for another day or two and see if the mother comes back, but if she doesn't, I would surely try incubating/candling them!

I went to look at the nest today; the grass is all laid over and I could only see 3 eggs. There were 11 yesterday.

I'm not supposed to, but I think tonight I might go pick up what isn't broken. Clark's a little wary of the idea, but I think it would be so exciting if I got them to hatch. Would anyone be interested in the ducklings?

eddie-k, trust me, its hard to not get addicted.

okie, looks like you're trying that 'disguise the chicken' thing too! I bet yours don't crow either. *haha* That is an adorable video! How many are there?

Doesn't look like I will be picking up eggs tonight, the rain is coming down pretty hard. I hope there are still some eggs left.

Hope everyone else is staying dry!

Just had to add, we have a bottle calf!

His momma's udder is too swollen for him to nurse, so we caught him and took him to the barn. He wasn't doing so well and had to get some shots, but about an hour later he was up and bumping me for his bottle! He's only about 4 days old, and he's pretty. *ha* I will try to get some pictures of me feeding him.

WOW! I can't believe how many other excited chicken owners there are in Oklahoma.

Our family has been here for 5 1/2 years, but we've only been chicken owners for about a day. I'm looking forward to this new adventure and don't be surprised if I start picking all your brains for area specific information.

to our new comers eddie-k, Greybear23, and PrincessMomma.

You will love it here, our chickidies is just about all we talk about!

Speaking of which, I woke up this morning to find my little ducklings out running a muck around my kitchen, when I finally was able to corner them thanks to my girls I took them back to the laundry room to put them back in their brooder only to find not only did they escape from theirs they broke in to the frizzle babys brooder knocked over the waterer and made a mess of their food, the poor frizzles were all covered in wet pine shavings and food. Poor things, so needless to say I had to finally cut the apron strings and say they were finally big enough to go out side, since they could get over the brooder tub wall. They are now outside in the bantam pen and are as happy as they can be. They have made my serama rooster their new mommy. And the little frizzles got their first bath, and they did pretty good with it, and I really do think they enjoyed the blow dryer, because everytime I would shut it off to do something they would start to churpin and I would turn it back on and they would close their little eyes and contently do that puring chirpey thing that my hens do when they get new bedding in their nests. They are all as happy as they can be now.
Well thats my exciting story of the day, any one else ever have chickkide troubles such as mine. I do addmit my animals are awful spoiled.

I went to check out the nest behind my house the other day. The mother duck was sitting on it.

She is pretty, white with light tan on places. She is part of the flock of bigger ducks; there's about 6 of them, I think they're all mixed. Hopefully we will be seeing some babies soon.

I got a picture of Clark feeding our calf. And of course you can't see his face. *haha* We named it Norman, from the calf in City Slickers. Its one of Clark's favorite movies. That's a big baby to only be about 4 or 5 days old!

I'm still around, just really busy with that pesky thing called Real Life.

I'm also haunting Craigs List to look for free lumber/pallets to see if I can still swing building a coop for very little/no cost. I've found a couple of posts, the only problem is making sure stuff would fit in my Versa. Hubs and I don't own a truck. Oh how I miss my truck...
