Cement Auction on Saturday, the 5th of July ... I sure hope they intend to have it this weekend. Gerald and I still intend to go. Hopefully we'll take at least some nice young roosters with us, and we have 5 adorable baby call ducks that need to go too, and maybe 5 rhode island red chicks. We expect to see some BYC Okies there, including al6517 and Muesky! How about GoldRose and Luvzmybabz? I hope to see you there too!
okiechick57, I'm so glad to hear from you again! It's been a while since we've seen or heard you around. I hope your life gets less chaotic soon :aww
They are resting right now, they will go in the bator later this afternoon when I move some other eggs to the hatcher..
Thanks for the quick shipping and great packing, I will post a bator record on my page for the JG so that you can check on my bator progess..
I was wondering about the shell color, do you know what chick color comes from which egg color?

The chicks could be either blue, black or splash out of any of the eggs. I sure wish all the eggs were the darker color, as I like brown eggs the best. I may eventually separate my hens one day & cull those that lay the lighter eggs, but since I only have 5 laying hens at the moment, I'd better keep them all. I've been keeping all my blue pullets and have bought eggs & hatched chicks from other Jersey breeders, so eventually there will be an increase in quality Jersey Giant layers at my house. I'm glad the eggs made it safely!
Yep....we plan on going. Think we need to call to make sure they're having it? I think Cammie has the contact number.
I'm bringing my BEAUTIFUL Black Rose Comb Bantam Rooster and some of their eggs (FRESH!)
I'm also going to bring a couple of dozen Lavender Guinea eggs to set.
I've got some really pretty baby chickies - Dominiques right now. Two hens have set and each have 8 babies with a few more to hatch.
Too bad I didn't catch them early on and set my own guinea eggs. They seem to know when I'm outta town to a horse show and then they begin setting!
no Cement for me this week my hubiie and I are going down to help my uncle with some storage things from my granparents Ostrich farm they used to have. 2 old city buses that were remodeled to transport baby ostriches are full of stuff from the farm and costing $$ to be stored so we are cleaning out the buses and they are going across the scales however I am so excited. I get the grow lights and the hydroponics system, hoping within 2 years to also have gotten a green house so that we can grow some of the family food and help out with chicken treats all year long.

During the "Dustbowl" years of the early 1900's thousands of Oklahomans migrated to California seeking work. (John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath profiled their story.) The term Okies was given to them by Californians. It was probably intended as a derogatory remark but now days it just refers to people from Oklahoma.
If I remember right, it was a derogatory term. It is now a badge of honor so to speak, and a verbal indicator that Oklahomans are resilient and can take anything negative and turn it into something positive if they so choose.
