ok it was SEVERAL pages back someone said they had standard/giant cochins near this area (NE).

I have my incubator set up and my son is wanting to hatch something. And if we are going to incubate eggs at least I would like to do the birds I LOVE!!

I have tried mail order eggs and NONE of them developed. So I would like to get eggs from someone near me.

I would be interested in buying chicks or adult birds in the standard cochin. I have a few bantam cochin that I would be interested in trading.

Thanks a bunch,
SC

Cammie, I saw on any another group site about someone near Chickasha that was giving away his entire flock (over 30 birds). Many of them rare breeds. I have been really busy so I haven't been on line much. Suffice to say I was a day late for the offer.

Ugh... One of the hottest weekends we're supposed to have so far this summer started off with a bang for me. I got rear ended this morning. Thankfully we weren't going over 10mph. My neck hurts but I'm entering into a nice darvoset haze thanks to my doctor.

So much for trying to call around and scavenge some wood for a coop this weekend. Try to stay cool everyone!

Gerald and I have decided to brave this heat wave and go to the Cement Auction this evening. I think we're going to take all our golden phoenix, and maybe something else. But, we aren't going to sell them if the price is too low. I hope we see some other BYC Okies there today!

We hatched some peacock eggs finally! I've spent quite a bit of money on peacock eggs this year on ebay and then trading chicken eggs with another BYC member from another state ... none hatched

but I bought some eggs at the Maud auction, and aquired some from a dear BYC Okie .... and I'm happy to say I have peachicks!

Hopefully they don't live in the living room with us for too long though ... they like to talk a lot!

Kryssty Glad your Ok. Take it easy and get well soon.

Carla, You guys are troopers. Let us know how it goes at Cement.

I lost two six week old chicks yesterday due to the heat. Just my luck, they were both Welsummers---the kind I want the most.

I was down at the pens earlier today and all was well but I am going back in a few minutes to check on things.

Everyone stay hydrated and watch out in the heat.

Hey Monte my hubby and I picked up a few of the chickens I think we got the last 2 standard birds and a couple of banties one of which is broody we moved her in a larger dog kennel and just put that in the coop and she is still sitting so far. I believe he had 2 pearl guineas and 2 lavaender also. I think he also had a trio of hens and a male Le Fleche sp? and some other banties. We left there about 9 and there was at least one other person going, and just think about the drive for you!!

We went to the Cement Auction tonight. Because of the heat, there were fewer people and birds there, although they had 2 big water cooling fans in the auction area, and an air conditioner in the office/snack bar area. Plenty of water was available for sellers to hydrate their birds, but several had expired from the heat ... they arrived near death, and some never recovered. I don't know why some sellers don't try to cover their birds during the trip to the auction. We always try to put a piece of cardboard or carpet over the birds on the trip. The combination of sun, heat, stress and lack of water were too much for some of the birds. Since it was so terribly hot today, we only brought what birds we could fit inside the truck in air conditioning, and brought water for them too.

The birds that sold for the highest prices were silkie and polish chickens, up to $18 each for desirable colors! Most other chickens were low in price, less than $10 each, especially roosters (of course).

Well, we are going to start hatching more of our silkie eggs now. Silkies always seem to sell well, and they're just so darn cute!

Next week is the new Newcastle Auction. We spoke to the people that are starting it up. They were at the Cement auction. I sure hope they do well. If they get a good enough response, they just might have the auction twice a month. That would be great for us, since it's only about 10 miles away from our house.

Here's what I just read on craigslist regarding the Newcastle sale:

Anybody melt yesterday?

About 2:30 the Hubs and I loaded up in the car, grabbed some of his family, and went swimming at the Y. It felt so good! (Even if I apparently over stressed the muscles that had been torn/bruised in the wreck on Friday.)

I think next summer, when I hopefully have chickens, I'll have to provide them a small wading pool with an inch or two of water so they could cool off.
