I'm glad to hear that you've been to the Maud auction, but I don't think I've heard of the Inola auction. When is it held and do you like it?

We enjoy going to auctions, even if not buying or selling, but seeing what's there and checking out the prices

Wow you are busy!! Welcome to the BYC and this thread, glad you found it. Of coures we have Naked Necks, Black Jersey Giants, Blue Jersey Giants Thanks to Carla, RIRs in standard and bantam, Malays, Phoenix and Mutts. Oh almost forgot, Silkies and Showgirls too.

Oooooh, you have peacocks! I've just started with a trio of peachicks I bought at the Maud auction, a trio of peachicks I hatched from eggs from the Maud auction, and I have a pair of peachicks I recently hatched from eggs from a super nice Okie. I sure hope I can get an unrelated trio from these birds, but I'm not so sure the ones I bought at Maud are black shoulder peacock, althrough that's what I was told the trio of chicks was.

Are the Apenzellers from me? or Carla in Texas? I hear she has some beautiful birds, and would love to have some.

Wow, you have quite the flock of birds & critters and a two year old? Yes, you sound extremely busy!

nnbreeder, If you ever have a young buff naked neck rooster that you could part with, let me know. Eventually, I'll be moving my naked neck pullets that I bought as chicks from my feed store (but they came originally from Privett Hatchery) into a separate pen. Gerald thinks we must raise naked necks now! I must admit, they do kind of grow on you!

Ok so why didn't you mention you had NNs? Are they bantams or standards? Don't even get me started about their atributes as there are many. I will make some calls to see what I can come up with but you know if you were to throw a buff Rock or Orpington over those hens you would get some fine chicks. We have found that outcrossing is neccessary to maintain large size and thriftiness in the chicks. I will almost always put a large feathernecked rooster over NN hens for our show birds.

Hi Carla. The Inola auction is the first Saturday of each month. The poultry auction starts at 8:30. It is held in a covered open sided structure. They sell alot of chickens, ducks, rabbits, birds etc. Everyone lines up what they are selling in rows, and the auctioneer comes thru in a golf cart selling them. Cages sell with the animals. It's big. The commission rate for the seller is 20%.

They sell just about anything you can think of out in the field. All kinds of equipment, trucks, tractors etc. Rows and rows of about anything you can think of. Lots of small items. Usually they have four or five auction crews going at the same time. I think they sell guns at 10:30. On the Wednesday before the sale you can go on Chuppsauction.com and look at the list of items brought in. Same thing on Thursday and Friday. The auction in the field starts at 8:00. You need to get there early because the line to get your number can get long.

Yes, I sold some at the Newcastle auction on Saturday night, and just sold some more on ebay tonight ... I'm on my way to the Oklahoma City Airport Post Office to get them out tonight ... they close at 11 pm.

Oh, by the way, my 2 month old Black Jersey Giant chicks sold for $11 each at the Newcastle auction! That was awesome!

Send me a pm if you're interested in some!

I think they are standard, at least they are nice and big, and I bought them the day before Easter. Hmmmm ... could I put a wheaten marans rooster with them? I have a few extra, and I just hate to get rid of them just in case the others don't do well. Oh, but wait a minute ... then the offspring would lay really dark eggs. That might not be good.

Wow, it sounds like a nice auction. I guess we'll have to not go to the Cement Auction next time to try this one out. Is that 8:30 in the morning? Hmmmm .... maybe I could go to both!
