Yep I have seen roosters sell for 10 times that back in the day.

Would that be when cockfighting was still legal?

Sixshooter60- if I was to buy a $400 rooster, he better be a magical golden egg layer!

Shoot you can buy my whole flock for that much money..lol.... i know some folks pay lots of money for some breeds . they are serious about their breeding program and the SQ of their birds

Wow. I can see how that might drive the price up, to recover the costs of the stolen birds, but ....

I'd just better keep my questions to myself. My newbieness is showing.

I went to a sale at Express there in Yukon with a friend and he was after two cows. We got there a little bit late and one of the cows was in the ring being offered. My buddy jumped in at 75,000 and took her home at a tad over 80. Did better on the second one as she came in under 70.

I have seen bulls sell at 100,000+ for 1/4 share. It's all in the genetics and what happens to be the flavor of the day.

Take a red and a black steer and say both were twins out of the same cow and bull. The one with the black hide will sell for more money then the red one will.

There is never a warrenty on hatching eggs. I sent a doz. to Alaska doing an eggspearament (get it?) and it took them a week to get there plus there was yolk running out of the box from the broken ones.

They were not packed properly on purpose. We wanted to see how much the eggs could take. There were 6 broken badly and two more that were cracked and out of what was left two hatched.

As I have stated before though when I hatch the breeders are on a special diet that should yield healthy chicks. The two that didn't make it full term were out of my layer pen and not my breeder pen.

One nice thing about having a group like ours is that there is always someone that has the breed that you are looking for or can keep a look out for them at their local auction.

And even if we don't post things like our feed formulas on line most will be quick to share them privately. Or at least look at your program and tweak it out to make your birds the best they can be.
