Ivy, there are several varieties of Large Fowl that are not considered "game birds" but are good foragers. Brown leghorns are good at camoflauge from preditors and good foragers. Saipan Jungle Fowl are good foragers and very independent. Malay are great foragers for bugs etc. and very independent (they are bantams)

Yep I have seen roosters sell for 10 times that back in the day.

Would that be when ************ was still legal?

Careful. Even saying that is illegal.

I found one on a rabbit's ear last week. That is a "first" that I am less than thrilled about.

We had some cold days this past winter, but with all the warm ones in between, I don't think many bugs died in the ground.

our ducks and geese are doing a pretty good job, course the main flock free ranges- didn't know the junglefowl and leghorns could take care of themselves?

ok....I only ask cause my BF doesn't like guineas at all! I would rather put birds of some sort down there than try to spray for ticks because that gets horribly exensive and i don't like chemicals on the same ground my cattle and horses graze
