simply enough, it just causes them to drink a lot more water, and the intake of more water will help them start laying....they need to stay very hydrated to lay well, giving greens also helps, watermelons, tomatoes, apples, etc....lots of moisture there...

The paper keeps saying that our building is closing in 2012 to do renovations so it can become Columbus Elementary. The school board keeps telling our principal that it will stay open with us teaching in it while the renovations go on, exposing Asbestos and Black mold. I'm afraid that they are just telling us this to keep us there and will call us all this July and say "change of plans, get your stuff and we will put you somewhere". I am on a continuing contract so they can't just cut me loose but I DO NOT want to teach elementary.
Also, I truely get the feeling that the Arts aren't going to be taught in public schools much longer. I can't really teach much art to children that can't read or do simple math anyway. This week a whole class of 8th graders couldn't divide 9 by 2!

I am not sure how I am going to do that for 150 + kids and keep track of modifications for special need students, know who is going to tutoring a couple of days each week (and what of the Art Pass Objectives they will be missing then) Writing a record of every dicipling problem, contacting parents for those problems, keep track of supplies that have to be counted before the end of every class to make sure they don't get stolen all in 6, 45 min. time blocks. Then grade papers. Plus they want to pay me the second lowest pay in the Nation in an already underpaid profession.........Ugh! I am not having a good week!

teachers and policemen are the most underpaid professionals out there, and lawyers and politicians the most over paid...we couldnt do without teachers and policemen, but I dream of a day where lawyers and politicians are no longer in a position of power or influence...

I would still make grit available unless they are totally free ranging, and on the weeds, I dont know of any that will kill a chicken....but you might ask around, I am still a greenhorn where chickens are concerned....

I am in the boat with ya, I would love to be able to turn mine out but dogs, coon, hawks, etc....you can put it in a bowl, you can mix a little in their food every few days, I just toss out a handful every few days in their pen...

Grit is not really needed if you are feeding layer pellets as it is included in the ration. If fed a diet of whole grains then grit should be offered free-choice as should ouster shell.
Feeding Ceyanne or any other hot pepper doesn't bother birds as they do not carry the receptors that can taste hot as we do. I know many that use Ceyanne as a natural wormer.
