LOL LOL I think Dakota might have the market cornered on hog wrastlin!!!! LOL, Looked out the kitchen window one day out to the pig tractor and seen Kota layin on his side twitchin and shakin!!! Scarred me as he is Asmatic and has has cesures before, so I go running out there and when I ran around the pig tractor to help him I notice he has ahold of a 100 lb pig by the hind leg and that pig was a shakin tha heck outa him tryin to get loose, took both of us to pick up the pig and get it back in the pig tractor(I was laughin so hard I couldn't see to hold onto the pig myself) Kota was kinda skinned up and had knightmares of hams attackin him for a week but he is better now!!!! Has anyone ever thought about sticking a couple of those little "happy face" car antenna balls from the '80s on the end of their roosters' spurs? I think that would effectively eliminate the chance of injury and cheer up the whole flock at the same time!

wonderful idea!! wonder how to keep them on??? super glue??

Can someone post a picture of this tire planter...I swear the old owner of this property collected tires, we have them everywhere and no way to get rid of them!
Would be great to find a use for them.

If I would of seen this earlier I would of taken a picture. I will see if I can get one in the morning. AT the last auction someone had cut them in half & put some kind of plastic type stuff on the bottom & had them set out for feeders. If I made them myself okay but I wasn't paying for them.

Sadly, I think my husband and boys are aquiring guns at the same rate I am aquiring chickens. But guns are wayyyyyyyy more expensive lol

My husband thinks a "few" chickens equal a bass boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHA I can verify that to be a fact.

Yep- hard lesson- but i can't blame barny at all- i gave him treats which confused the issues for him- gorgeous bird- even that small interaction caused problems- my theory now is look, enjoy them but hands off unless necessary! with the current roo i am using that theory- he will come over when i dish out food, but i'm not interacting specifically with him, although i may need to do his spurs- dreading that- but gotta do something with them- maybe just file them down a bit?

So far I haven't had any cochin roos be agressive in any way. I have 3 of Jack's black copper marans chick in the brooder with my March 20th hatch of milles and partridge cochins and those coppers are already clearly more agressive than my birds. Today when I picked them out of the tank/brooder to clean it, each one of the little buggers pecked me! I like my teddy bear chickens. Their passiveness is the #1 reason I picked cochins.
One of the best things about chickens is that there is a breed/breeds for everyone.

I have a bantam barred rock that is VERY mean. He tires to flog me everytime I feed him, he has even jumped in the air to get me. Needless to say he is still alive (for now) & is for sale.

Al, the last time I was at Blanchard, I bought two of those huge wooden coops, anyway on the boards above each stall someone had written the names of the pairs that were kept there.

The best pairing was Rambo and Dolly Parton! It made me laugh. Maybe I'll start naming my birds now!

(Reminds of the story of the guy that named his first car after his English teacher.)

Well of course I do have the one bird everyones knows does have a name, the "HULK" he's my avatar pic, but he doesn't know that's his name LOL.

cochins are amazing, really, my little cochin roo doesn't have an aggressive bone in his little body- unless you are another roo- i agree MJ, they are keepers! what is it about BR's? they sure have an attitude! meanwhile, Galahad had to try on city's idea for caps on the spurs-
