I have several small brown snakes w/o any markings at all that live in the dirt in my yard, any ideas on type?

I've had snakes like you're describing in my yard too. They're a little thicker around than a pencil, brown on top with a light cream colored underbelly. At adult-hood they're about 10 inches long. The folks at the OKC zoo told me they were Brown snakes and beneficial to have around. They eat snails and insects. My neighbor finds them frequently in her yard, usually under rocks, then she brings them over to give to the chickens.

DD left the coop unlatched last night. Lost 2 chicks to our 8 month old australian shephard. He has always showed interest in catching them, but always released them after pinning them down. He is just a playful pup & I figured he was just being a pup. Today he actually tore one apart. DH says not keeping a dog that eats our livestock, and since he has gotten a taste of chicken he won't stop. I say that he is very trainable & just a pup. Not sure if I can break him or not. Would hate to keep the girls pinned up all the time! We only have 2 more weeks until we move to our 20 acres in Cement, I was looking forward to letting them free range during the day.

Such a mess!

DD really wants some more Polish chicks now. Anyone have any eggs or chicks bringing to P.O.O.P.S?
