Oklahoma Ice Storm

Yesterday was bad with the freezing rain. They canceled church all around us. This morning is bad--the roads are icy and schools were delayed or canceled. The dogs go out and fall down on their butt. The chickens are staying in. Ducks & turkeys are ice-skating. Horses aren't moving much.

Its starting to melt a little, but we are getting another wave of it tonight.

(love the new emotes!)

We got ice here yesterday, and there's more forecast for tomorrow. Thankfully the roads aren't bad-yet. Ice and snow storms are so lovely...but I sure wish the snow and ice would stay off the road-I hate driving on ice!

The bad ice storms keep missing us, but they are on there way tonight. I'm not looking forward to a repeat of last year. It's wet and cold outside, just a mess. We've had some freezing rain and sleet, but not enough to cover the trees in ice yet.

Sorry to hear of the bad weather up there guys!
The front has stalled north of us. It is in the upper 70's here, feels like a spring day. Would be glad to share some of the warmth with you!

that is from the local weather predictors, wow, this may be a first for me in Kansas, freezing rain with lightening.......

Oh well, we missed the one on sat. it was predicted to give us 1/4 inch of freezing rain, we got almost nothing.

It did prompt us to fire up the generator and hump more wood into the basement, that is why it missed us, we were ready.

We got about 1/2 inch of sleet on saturday. I hope this one misses us. We heat with a wood stove, so that's not an issue, but I don't want to lose electricity. We've got a generator, but my hubby uses it to pump water for the cattle....not the house. I made him get a 12v battery out for me tho so I can hook the incubator up to it if the juice goes out. He's not gonna be happy if I bring the newly hatched chicks up from the basement to the wood stove!!

What kind of 12V battery is this? Sorry, I'm curious

Edited to add: Well, I know it is probably lead acid, but what is the capacity? Usually rated in Amp Hours. Or a model number/manufacturer information would be good.

It's a regular 12v car battery that you connect it to. I've never used it before and I hope I don't have to tonight or tomorrow, but I'm glad that I've got it as a back up.

Well, we lost power for several hours at 4 am this morning. It came back on, but the tree limbs are breaking and the electric lines are really saggy....and it's still raining and freezing on. So far it hasn't been too windy which has helped, but it's starting to pick up a little now. I think I probably lost the eggs that are on day 18.

The 12v battery backup worked for awhile and then quit. As soon as the juice came back on I plugged it back in, but the temp went down to 79. I had the chicks by the wood stove and they seem to be doing ok...my cats think they're great entertainment!! Hopefully this will get out of here before too long....and before we lose power again.

I imagine all or most of the Okies on here are without power .......they've had it worse than us.
