Gresh....Pyncheons are NOT a Landrace....they are a breed and breed true..... I've had the breed for 16 yrs. They are recognized by the ABA...have been for years.
Thanks folks. Chicken newbie and I'm used to reading about "standard breed". plus I've been looking for info on the La Fleche and got overexcited seeing "LF" on the list
I was sooo hoping it was an abbreviation like BR for barred rocks. I am facinated by these older breeds and when I get a little more experience I'd like to keep one of these critical list breeds.

Unfortunately, I can't go to the show. I have a couple people who are going to be there, looking for birds for me. One is, hopefully, bringing a roo for me, but he hasn't told me the price. I have hired someone else to transport the birds back here to CA. I have to send some money with them and I have no idea how much I should send. I might not even be able to afford this, but I have to get some good stock!
I know that prices are going to vary, but could you give me a price range or guesstimate?

The prices vary wildly, depending on the breeder, the quality of his stock, the number of animals he has available, the rarity of the breed and/or the variety. You could pay $20, you could pay $100, or more. It really just depends. The best way to get the best birds is to do research on who the top breeders are, and contact them. Then, pay the price they are asking. Many of them have put years of their lives into this, and that is what you're paying for. Now, of course, like saladin mentioned a while back, some breeders are newbies breeding because they can, and have managed to get good stock - ask questions! See how long they have been doing this, find out their experience with that breed. It's worth waiting for the right birds from the right person, which I know is very hard to do, but worth it. You can really tell the difference when you see those birds.

I've long thought about getting Cubalayas.

Talk about a breed that's hard to find. I started breeding Black Penedesencas this spring. There's a lot to like about them.
